Weekly Astro Forecast — Jan 3 – Jan 9, 2016

Forecast

Here is the Ask the Astrologers Astrology Forecast for the week of Jan 3, 2016 – Jan 9, 2016:

This week starts with Mars moving into Scorpio on Sunday. Mars is dignified in Scorpio, which it co-rules with Aries. This transit can see you delving more deeply into the inner workings of your own psyche. It brings a powerful, driven — and potentially even obsessive — desire to understand your own motivations and to uncover the same in others. It’s all about unraveling secrets and exploring that which is hidden.

This archetype is passionate and intense, but can become outraged or vindictive if it feels it’s been wronged in any way. It often feels persecuted or misunderstood. It’s driven to make things right and that may be uncomfortable for those on the receiving end of the Mars in Scorpio backlash. But it’s a deep, soulful, compelling energy that can see you getting in touch with your personal power.

On Tuesday Venus squares Neptune, which can translate as unrealistic expectations and wishful thinking — especially regarding romantic interests. You may have to check yourself if you find yourself spending too much time daydreaming or wondering “what if”  This transit is prone to flights of fantasy and can be downright delusional. It’s not the time to put your stock in people who’ haven’t proven themselves or who have engaged in dubious practices in the past.

Mercury also squares Mars on Tuesday and goes retrograde at 1° Aquarius 02″. The Sabian symbol for this degree is (appropriately) “An Unexpected Thunderstorm.” The Mercury / Mars square suggests that communications may be tempestuous so consider taking a breath and count to 10 before you speak — especially if what you say can come across to others as angry or abrasive.

This transit can manifest as harsh words, confrontations, temper tantrums and impatience. And it can also be careless and / or reckless which translates to “accident prone.” Watch your step during this transit, in more ways than one.

Because of the retrograde, it’s not the time to sign contracts or make major plans or purchases — especially those related to the communications or travel. It is however an excellent time though to review, revisit and revise whatever needs to be given a second look.

On Wednesday, the Sun conjuncts Pluto (and squares Uranus the following day). This brings the Pluto / Uranus square that’s been transpiring for several months (and has been in exact aspect seven times over the last 3 years) right back to the forefront.

The Sun / Pluto conjunction brings ego and will (the Sun) together with power and passion (Pluto). You can get a lot accomplished with this combination. It’s ; you can coerce others to see things your way or even to do your bidding for you. Because this conjunction is in Capricorn — the sign associated with discipline, pragmatism, ambition and authority — this transit is excellent for taking the reins and flexing your leadership muscles.

The downside of this aspect is the potential for it to come across as forceful or domineering. Keep this in mind as you can use it to delegate responsibility to others as long as they admire and respect you (the Sun). But you can also contribute to any resentment or hostility (Pluto) that’s already brewing or floating around in the ethers.

The Sun / Uranus portion of this aspect (a square) can be combative and argumentative. This aspect is partile on Thursday, and pits that same ego / will energy associated with the Sun against the rebellious / antagonist Uranian impulse. It can create friction, especially if you sense that someone is trying to tell you what to do or how to act. This aspect can be defiant and combative so if you’re dealing with someone who’s acting like an unruly teenager, your best move is going to be to completely disengage.

Mercury retrogrades back into Capricorn on Friday, as the Sun sextiles Chiron and Jupiter turns retrograde at 23° Virgo 14″. We all know that Mercury retrograde means things are likely to go haywire — especially all things related to communications, communications devices (phones, computers, tvs, etc.) and local travel — like automobiles, train and bus schedules and so on. But this one is shaping up to be a doozy, thanks to the Mercury / Mars square.

The Sun / Chiron sextile can soften some of this energy as it opens us up to the pain and suffering of others that we may normally overlook. It brings compassion and understanding to the forefront and can make it a little easier to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.

Jupiter retrograde turns all of our spiritual and higher-mind impulses inward. It can bring greater insights and awareness based on what resonates with us personally rather than through external doctrines. The Sabian Symbol for the degree that Jupiter retrograde “Mary and Her Little White Lamb.” This symbol also seems appropriate given that this retrograde occurs in Virgo, the sign associated with innocence, naivety and purity.

Use this time to think about what makes you feel fulfilled on Soul level, rather than the objects and accomplishments that bring you external comfort and satisfaction. It’s a time for pursuing altruistic or charitable goals. And a time to build on your personal relationship with your own higher power.

Venus conjuncts Saturn on Saturday and may have you taking a more serious look at your love life. That includes the role you play in your relationships as well as where you stand with getting your needs met. Saturn and Venus can have you looking at the glass as half full and wondering when it’s going to be your turn. The upside of this transit is that it provides incredibly clarity and gets you seeing things for what they really are. But the downside is a tendency to see things as not good enough or being too focused on what is lacking.
That’s it for this week, see you next Sunday!
