Aries: Four of Cups

This month, with your ruler (Mars) opposing Neptune, you may be dealing with feelings of apathy, uncertainty, disillusionment or discontent — especially regarding your personal relationships.

The Mars / Neptune opposition can see you focusing on what’s missing in your life, rather than what’s right there before you. It can see you wondering whether there’s something (or someone) else out there that would excite or inspire you.

This is the Four of Cups from Mary Griffin’s beautiful (and sadly, out-of-print) Hezicos Tarot. The figure in the card looks absolutely bored to tears, oblivious to the beauty surrounding her, and the mischief taking place beneath her feet.

The is the essence of the Four of Cups. There’s also generally a lack of energy, which may mean that for the first couple weeks of September, you won’t feel like doing much of anything.

One of the positive aspects of this card though is that it reveals to you exactly what’s “wrong with this picture” and allows you the opportunity to make it right.

It can get you thinking about how things could be — in an ideal world or at least with respect to following your dreams — and then what you can do to make those dreams a reality. While you may start out thinking “what’s the point?” you’ll have a clearer idea of what’s worth salvaging and what could use a little more work in the end. .

Three of Cups

Aries: Three of Cups

This month, with the Sun, Mercury and New Moon all coming together in your 5th (romance, love affairs and creative self-expression) house, it’s going to be a good time for you to let your hair down, kick your heels up and have some fun!

This is the Three of Cups from the Deviant Moon Tarot. This card is all about people gathering together to connect, interact and celebrate. It’s a happy, joyful energy that can manifest as a party or celebration, or it could be as simple as a girls night out.

Look at the figures in this card. They’re all so different, yet they’ve found a common ground and embrace one another with a the kind of joyful camaraderie that says they know how to have fun.

They rise up from the belly of a monster fish. Are they celebrating their impending release? Or are they resigned to a more sinister fate and engaging in one last last hurrah?

Either way this card is all about socializing and participating in group activities. Hanging out with like-minded people and expressing feelings of affection and good-will.

This month you want to leave your troubles at the door and go out and have yourself some fun, There’s no room for fretting about work or other mundane concerns.

No matter where the people in your life have come from — no matter what your connection or history or relationship with them is — the Three of Cups is a card of companionship and camaraderie. It serves as a reminder that there’s always something to be grateful for, and always someone to share your gratitude with.

Aries: Seven of Wands

With Mars (your ruler) now in Cancer — and moving through your 4th house — there may be times this month where you feel like retreating into your own thoughts and creating a safe inner sanctuary for yourself.

You may also find yourself needing to be more guarded and alert, rather than accepting things at face value.  You may face opposition from others, in the form of competition or outright resistance. You may also feel “under siege,” as in being attacked or ganged up on.

There may be a moral dilemma or a situation that requires you to compromise your ideals. This may be a friend who asks you to keep an uncomfortable confidence, an accusation that’s put you on the defense, or a situation in which you feel unfairly targeted.

In this version — from the Light Seer’s Tarot — the choice is pretty clear. It’s not going to be about fighting or one-upping anybody. It’s about distancing yourself from all the noise and reclaiming your own power.

There is a “hold your ground” element to the traditional Seven of Wands and a call to find your center in this one. Either way it’s about self-preservation. But what better way to strengthen your position than to harness all that energy, rather than allowing it to scatter all around you.

Think about the obstructions you’ve been standing in the way of obtaining your goals and work on breaking them down. You may have to explore uncomfortable feelings or you may have to conquer some fears. Whatever it is, know that you do have the tools at your disposal. The Seven of Wands requires you to consider solutions that might not be readily available, as you plan your next move.

The World

Aries: The World

You should be feeling like you’re on top of the world this month, with five planets — including the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Chiron and the New Moon — in your sign. This is going to be a great time to prepare for the next chapter in your life, which may also require you to tie up some loose ends.

If you took stock of what’s changed for you in the last year (from one birthday to the next), you might be surprised at how has happened. And the World card tells you you’re right on the verge of checking those things off your bucket list and preparing to tackle more.

This is the World card from the Jaen Tarot. It’s the last card in the deck, completing the Fool’s journey. As such, this card speaks of achievement, fulfillment, integration and completion.

And just like the Fool, you’re now coming full-circle, from instinct to essence to progress to development, as you come to the end one cycle and prepare to embark on a new one.

You could be finishing a course or internship, tying up lose ends on a project that you’re ready to launch, putting a failed relationship behind you and getting back into the dating scene, finishing (and feeling good about) a self-improvement regimen. The possibilities are endless.

The World card is a card of both fulfillment and completion. With that in mind, it’s time to put the finishing touches on projects that are almost finished, and also time to rest anything that just didn’t pan out for you. You’re preparing to start a whole new journey, and in doing so will want to with as clean a slate as possible.

Aries: Nine of Pentacles

You may have a lot going on this month, with three planets in your 11th (social) house and your ruler (Mars) moving into Gemini in your 3rd. These are all very action (and interaction) oriented placements, but they can also be extremely draining.

As a result it might be time for you to take a breather, or stop and smell the flowers, like the figure in this card.

The Nine of Pentacles is all about enjoying the bounty that life affords you rather than focusing on what you lack. You’re hopefully feeling good about how far you’ve come and are ready to start enjoying it.

The Nine of Pentacles — from the Sun and Moon Tarot — says that you’re more than satisfied with all you’ve attained. It’s about counting your blessings and aligning yourself with those concepts, knowing that the Universe offers up unlimited resources to those who do.

Take some time this month to appreciate all that you have as well as those who have helped you along the way.  And remember that wealth and abundance needs to flow (it’s called “currency” for a reason), if you’re able to give some of it away.

We know that all the money in the world won’t buy us happiness if it’s acquired without passion. Yet we keep on wanting more of it, and find ourselves struggling with the idea of figuring out how much is “enough.”

The Nine of Pentacles challenges us to not only answer that question but to examine our personal values as well. Remember that whatever you put out there — whether it’s time, energy, money or yourself — as well as whatever you’re open to receiving, will all balance out and be replenished over time.

Chariot

Aries: The Chariot

With Mars (your ruler) now moving forward again in its own sign, this should be a great month for you to work on harnessing your personal power and manifesting your goals.

This is the Chariot card from the New Palladini Tarot.  It’s associated with courage, determination, stamina and self-control.

The Chariot card is associated astrologically with the sign Cancer, which the Moon rules. In that respect it’s a reminder of how divergent forces in all of our lives — light vs. dark, positive vs. negative, instinct vs. action, etc. — compete with one another for control.

The figure in the card stares straight ahead, wearing a Sphinx hood and golden chainmail, and weilding a mighty sword. The Chariot’s wheels replicate the Sun shining high in the sky, just as the hawk’s gaze replicates the Charioteer’s.

You may be called upon to both maintain control and harness the opposing forces in your life. Whether this is related to relationship, career, or the dual desires within your own psyche, the challenge will be to find a way to pull your energy inward and funnel it outward into one solid direction.

You can accomplish a lot through sheer force and determination — as long as you’re aware of the need to focus your energy in one primary direction. You’ll have find a way to balance the diverging energies in your life. But if you can “pull it together” you’ll make great strides toward accomplishing your goals.

Aries: The Hanged Man

This month, with your ruling planet (Mars) turning retrograde, you may feel like the Universe is forcing you to put certain aspects of your life on hold. Plans you’ve made may he held up or delayed, or you may feel the need to take a step back and regroup.

This card — the Hanged Man from the Feng Shui Tarot — refers to things slowing down or even coming to a dead halt. It could be due to circumstances beyond your control, or it could be a decision you make when you realize the path you’re on is leading you in a direction you don’t want to go.

You could be frustrated over something that’s taken too long to manifest, or have the sense that nothing is happening despite your best efforts. You may also feel like it’s one step forward and two steps back, courtesy of Mars retrograde.

Roadblocks are put in your path — often for your own good. You may have been running at a break-neck pace, never stopping to look at what you’ve accomplished. Or you may have found yourself losing steam over a project that just hasn’t panned out.

Either way, it may be time to step back, take some time to get perspective and put things on hold — at least long enough to evaluate your commitment.

The Hanged Man can refer to delays and sacrifices and when it does, you can bet they’re necessary. You’ll have to trust that there’s a reason, even if it’s not readily apparent, and that it will reveal itself to you in time. It indicates a need to back down, even if what you really really want to do is push forward. Your best bet under these circumstances will be to surrender to a higher power, or at least give up the resistance, for now.

Aries: Black Tortoise Six

Opportunities abound for you this month with your ruler (Mars) joining Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in your public sector. This is a powerhouse conjunction that’s likely to get you noticed. It can herald a period of increased public scrutiny, and can bring you more recognition on the job.

You may have been putting a lot of effort into your work and not even realizing that others have taken notice. Or you could be unexpectedly pulled aside by a loved one, just to tell you how much you’re valued.

This is the Feng Shui Tarot’s version of the Six of Wands. It’s a card of appreciation and admiration. You “win” something and have earned the right to be satisfied with the spoils of your victory.

This isn’t about ego or conceit and it’s never at someone else’s expense. There’s a strong sense of being supported and lifted up by others who rejoice right along with you.

You could be in line for a promotion or an award at work. You could be given the okay to go ahead with a project you’ve been excited about. Or it may be as simple as pat on the back and some words of encouragement from those who look up to you.

Whatever form this takes for you this month, know that you’ve earned it and that you deserve it. It may just give you the incentive to keep shooting for the stars and manifesting your highest goals. Don’t shy away from celebrating your achievements with others.

Even if it feels premature at this stage know that you’re well on your way and that the fun doesn’t have to stop once you reach your goals. Embrace the accolades that are coming toward you and don’t forget to thank those who’ve helped you along the way.

Wheel of Fortune

Aries: Wheel of Fortune

This month, you may be looking at the ups and downs in your life and thinking about how they’ve led you to where you are today. The Wheel of Fortune card is associated with fate, destiny, “karma,” life cycles and both good and bad luck.

Sometimes we blame ourselves for the down times (assuming we’ve “brought it all on ourselves”) while viewing the up times as outside of our control.

We all experience these up and down cycles — and we all try to maximize the former while minimizing the latter. But the Wheel of Fortune — this version from the Alchemical Tarot — tells us that both are necessary and that the good times wouldn’t be good without the frame of reference of the not-so-good times.

Like the mythical Ouroboros or world serpent, the Wheel of Fortune tells us that there is no beginning or end, much like the rhythms in our own lives.

Here we see the two dragons — one white with wings and a crown and the other one red and scaly  — circling the wheel together. As one goes up the other comes down, repeating that cycle over and over again in an ongoing (and never ending) process.

This month you’ll have 6 planets and the South Node moving through your 10th house — the area associated with reputation and public standing. As a result, this is the area you’re likely to see the biggest impact. You can take advantage of these transits by aligning yourself with their respective energies. And rather that seeing yourself tied to that karmic wheel this month, consider participating in your destiny and working to overcome the conditioning that’s held you there in the past

Remember that as one one door closes, another one opens — just as the wheel turns and the seasons change. Today’s transits speak of finding ways to voice your intentions while at the same time putting disappointments and heartaches behind you.

Two of Wands

Aries: Two of Wands

Your card this month is the Two of Wands from the beautiful Fantastical Tarot. The Two of Wands — like all Twos — refers to taking the spark of an idea (seen in the Aces) and forming it into a tangible, working plan.

This requires looking at it from all angles — weighing the pros and cons, evaluating time and energy, separating the wheat from the chaff and so on. This is beautifully represented in the imagery depicted on this version of the card.

Here we see two leopards — one dark and one light — each standing watch by their own ornate pillars. The dark leopard is an exact mirror image of the light. Their sleek bodies curve toward one another and become “one,” reminding us of the power of uniting opposing forces to make one stronger entity. The Sun shines high in the sky between them.

The key here is balance: you won’t be able to make something happen without careful consideration and planning. And all the planning in the world won’t cause your ideas to materialize without putting in the effort.

There’s a certain give and take with the Two of Wands (as with all Twos in the tarot) that is mirrored right back to you. There’s also a need for discrimination — throwing out the unrealistic or half-baked ideas and focusing on what has a genuine shot at being successful. The Two of Wands requires you to be objective and this is why it’s always wise to bounce your ideas off of another.

If you want to make something happen this month, prove it by participating in its development. The outcome you achieve will be directly proportionate to the energy you put into making it manifest.

Seven of Wands

Aries: Seven of Wands

This month, with your ruler (Mars) moving into Cancer — the sign of its fall — you may feel like your back is against the wall, or that you need to hold your ground against what feels like perilous opposition.

The Seven of Wands — this version from Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s Shadowscapes Tarot — refers to a need to be more alert, guarded and cautious, rather than accepting things at face value. It can manifest as a need to brace for attack

You may face opposition from others, in the form of competition or outright resistance. You may also feel “under siege:” as in being attacked or ganged up on.

There is a “hold your ground” element to this card which is in keeping with the traditional Seven of Wands. But rather than fighting off someone trying to unseat you, you may be fighting off your own urges to see the grass as greener on the other side.

The Seven of Wands — like all Sevens — refers to a dilemma that is not going to be easily reconciled. The question is: do you take the easy way out (in this case giving in to the masses and compromising your own integrity)? Or do you hold your ground and risk further alienating your detractors?

This card requires you to look at your situation from all sides and figuring out the best course of action. There are issues with boundaries that are present in this card, and it can manifest as feeling imposed upon or backed into a corner. But the same dilemma applies. You have to choose whether to give in or maintain your stance and deal with whatever repercussions result.

Whatever happens this month — no matter how this plays out for you — you’re going to be called upon to take the high road. You’re going to be challenged to stand your ground and to not allow yourself to back down. You’ll also have to reconcile a “me against the world” attitude before it turns into a chip on your shoulder.

Emperor

Aries: The Emperor

This month, with 6 planets in your career and money sectors, it ‘s going to be time to step up and approach your responsibilities from a more serious and authoritative standpoint.

The Emperor card is all about power, success, reputation and public standing. But these are all relative terms and are not necessarily related to profession. They’re just as likely tied to responsibilities around the home or within a group of peers.

In this version of the card — from the Stolen Child Tarot — the Emperor is a polar bear looking off into the distance as he keeps protective watch over a young changeling child. The ground is frozen solid, what little brush there is is sparse and snowflakes are falling all around them.

As fierce a guardian as this papa bear may be, there’s a gentle, protective quality about him too. This is in line with Emperor archetype, which is also fatherly and paternal.

The message behind this card is one of taking care of business. It’s not the time to be passive or wishy-washy. It’s all about stepping up and taking control of a situation that requires a firm hand and authoritative presence.

Although there are masculine elements to the Emperor card, the references don’t only apply to men. It can refer to a single mother, a career-woman, or a woman with important responsibilities as well. It can also refer to a man in your life (or someone new coming in) who embodies these qualities.

Whether you are a parent doling out “tough love” or a supervisor having to strong arm an employee or just taking back your power in a personal relationship, remember it’s important to temper that with kindness and compassion. Just like the bear in our card, a protective gentle approach is just as important as a firm steady hand.
