Five of Wands

Aries: Five of Wands

With your ruling planet (Mars) involved in a tense aspect with Pluto from the start of this month, you may see your competitive drives being awakened — along with your fighting spirit — for better or worse.

This is a larger than life aspect that tends to magnify all the Martian impulses: anger, aggression, impatience and combativeness. It may see you acting without thinking or ignoring repercussions.

On the up side, this transit can increase your natural confidence and self-esteem. It can see you feeling invincible, to the extent that you’re willing to put yourself out there — letting nothing stand in your way. But on the downside it’s careless and potentially reckless — especially if you allow your ego to take charge.

The Five of Wands — this version for the beautiful Gypsy Palace Tarot — refers to conflict, strife and competition: forcing your will on others, trying to be heard above the “roar” of opposing viewpoints and struggling against cross-purposes.

You may have to look at where you may have been pushing your views forcefully onto others. You might not even realize that you’re doing it, yet your actions can translate as pressure, at at least on some subconscious level. Petty squabbles can erupt into major arguments because no one’s actually listening to what anyone else has to say.

The important thing to remember is that most disagreements are based on misunderstandings in the first place. The inability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes –- coupled with the need to be heard — is behind almost every argument out there. And this combination can be a recipe for disaster.

Fortunately all this changes when Mars moves into Leo (on the 12th). In the meantime though, steer clear of incendiary topics (like politics and religion). Use this transit to your advantage, by choosing your battles wisely and in most cases choosing not to battle at all.

Golden SunflowerTAURUS: The Golden Sunflower

This is a time of new growth, new ideas and realizations. In the midst of your new found ideals you feel a great deal of love and compassion and a bursting with sharing this with others.

This is the Golden Sunflower Card, the Chrysalis Tarot’s version of Temperance. The sunflower in the middle of the card shows that the growth you are on the verge of or already experiencing is sudden.

The six butterflies surrounding the sunflower suggest a time of transformation whilst the fish point to eternal knowledge.

It is the two urns that you need to think about. They are closed. If you were to take off the lid to one or both of the urns what would you find inside? It is what you find in the urn that is the answer to your question on how you can speed up your own growth and/or get a new venture off the ground and running as smoothly as possibly without putting too much effort into it.

Check out the butterflies and choose one that you feel drawn to then do a search on the net to see what that coloured butterfly means. This will set you on the path of finding your own way.

Perhaps it is not the generally accepted way of finding your answers but the inner growth you are experiencing right now knows no bounds and therefor you should treat it differently to what has come before.

Seven of SwordsGEMINI: Seven of Swords

This month, with your ruling planet (Mercury) retrograde in your sign, you want to be thinking about ways to use your ingenuity to work through a problem or to get out of sticky situation.

The Seven of Swords in some decks refers to deception, trickery and duplicity. But when you break it down into its purest essence — Sevens and Swords — you can see that there’s an entire spectrum of manifestations for this archetype.

It speaks of ingenuity, mental acuity and strategy. You have to be fast on your feet to ward off the curve-balls life throws your way, and a Seven of Swords / Mercury in Gemini combination fits that bill perfectly.

In this version of the card — from the beautiful Celestial Tarot — we see the Lepus constellation, which is associated with a hare being chased down by Orion’s hunting dogs Canis Major and Minor. The Hare sits up on his haunches behind a semi-circle configuration of Seven swords. His ears are perked and he’s ready to pounce at a moment’s notice.

This constellation features prominently in some lunar mythology, including the Moon Rabbit. The brightest star in the Lepus constellation is Arneb, which is said to embody the qualities of Saturn and Mercury. This is also quite fitting of the Seven of Swords dynamic. What keywords would one associate with a Saturn and Mercury combination? Try cunning, ingenuity, planning and strategy.

If you think it would be easy for two ferocious dogs to chase down and devour a cute little bunny rabbit, think again! You may (like the Hare) need to keep your ears perked and be ready to leap at a moment’s notice. While the Seven of Swords can provide you with the tools to “out-wit, out-play and outlast” your opponents, take note of the swords that are increasing in size, and save your best moves for last.

High PriestessCancer: The High Priestess

With a lineup of planets moving through your 12th house this month, it’s going to be time for exploring your intuition as well as the deeper, more mysterious regions of your psyche, courtesy of this card — Norse Tarot’s version of the High Priestess.

The High Priestess speaks of inner wisdom, psychic guidance and a sense of “knowing” even when there is not a factual basis for it. It’s a strong feminine energy — regardless of your gender. It speaks of intuition, perception and wisdom, and all the secrets of the universe unveiled.

In this version of the card we meet Frigga, the Norse goddess of beauty, love and marriage. She was also goddess of the Sky and clouds, as well as a renowned prophet and Seer.

Frigga was able to foresee the future but unable to change it. This may be in keeping with the “unlucky” aspect associated with Friday the 13th: when you think about it, it’s only the unlucky part of fate that any of us want to change.

Here we see her emerging from a dark pool (memories, the unconscious, feelings and emotions). Behind her is a majestic throne with her blood red cloak draped over it, and behind that an enormous Crescent Moon. The juxtaposition between her red cloak (passion) and her white gown (purity) reinforces her enigmatic nature, as does her perfectly still and centered stance. She crosses her arms before her, keeping her secrets close to her heart.

Like the High Priestess in the card, you may be getting in touch with your own intuition today, or thinking about delving into the mystery schools — learning tarot, astrology, numerology, etc. Or you may find yourself experiencing profound instances or deja vu or synchronicity. You may also be experiencing bursts of creativity and inspiration. Another possibility, one that comes unexpectedly, is a sudden onset of clairvoyance or psychic impressions.

It’s important to embrace these visions and try to understand them, rather than shying away from them. They can bring incredible insights into not only your own personal choices, but also into the direction you need to be heading in order to achieve your goals over the next several weeks.

the Devil

LEO: The Devil

This month, with Mars moving through your 12th house and soon to be joined by three other planets), you might need to be thinking about ways to escape from the limitations in your life that have been holding you back.

As the 12th house is associated with confusion, uncertainty, escapism and avoidance, it’s very possible that the restrictions you find yourself struggling against have all been self-imposed.

The Devil card — this version from the Golden Tarot of Klimt — encourages you to move past some of the restrictions you’ve imposed on yourself, particularly with respect to the more unsavory emotions — jealousy, anger, paranoia, fear, etc.

If you look at the figures in this card, you can see that the Devil is barely holding onto the figures in the foreground. They could easily unchain themselves and slip away. So what is preventing them from doing just that? Back to the self-imposed restrictions — namely negative thoughts and fears.

Your challenge this month will be to figure out what’s been holding you back — what chains you’ve bound yourself up in — and release yourself from them. Whether this be a mental, emotional or physical situation for you it is not healthy to felt so caught up in something that it overshadows other areas of yourself and your life.

If you have a bigger monkey on your back — such as addiction or another unhealthy form of debauchery — now is also the time to come clean with yourself about it and get it taken care of. Whatever it is, know that the Devil card is here to remind you that only you can reclaim your power. You can liberate yourself from the chains that bind you only if you’re brave enough to face them first.

VIRGO: Six of Earth

This month, with a lineup of planets — including the New Moon and your ruling planet Mercury — all in your 10th house, you are likely to feel like a weight is being lifted off of your shoulders.

This is the Six of Earth card — the Vision Quest Tarot’s version of the Six of Pentacles. It’s traditionally associated with benevolence and generosity, particularly in relation to money, material possessions and values.

As a result, you may be called upon to open your heart and loosen your purse strings, as a measure of generosity and good will.

This card is all about giving and receiving — giving what you can afford to give: whether it’s of your time, your money or your energy, and being open to receiving all that the Universe has to offer.

It speaks of understanding the pathways between giving and receiving, to the extent that there are no expectations for being repaid. You give because you can and because the gratitude you receive in exchange is more than enough reward.

An important feature of the Six of Pentacles is also gratitude. Noticing the small miracles and blessings that surround you as well as the bigger ones. And honoring those who’ve helped you along the way.

The Six of Pentacles serves as a reminder to pay attention to (and be grateful for) the blessings that you receive. You may find yourself loosening your purse strings after all, or you may find yourself the recipient of someone else’s good will. This is the attitude you want to hold onto: knowing that there is always enough for everyone and that prosperity and abundance can be continuously replenished.

Tarot of the Zirkus Mägi -- 5 of BladesLibra: Five of Blades

This month, with your relationship ruler (Mars) in opposition to Pluto, you may find yourself at odds with others.  This aspect generates tension between these two planets and can manifest as power struggles and conflicts with others.

This is the Five of Blades, which is the Tarot of the Zirkus Magi’s version of the Five of Swords. It’s appropriately called “Opposition” in this deck, referring to the conflicts and challenges that are bound to present when egos take center stage.

While the Five of Blades can be combative, this is not about physical conflicts. It’s going to be verbal, mental or in some way related to communications. Religious / political differences are one example of the stalemate that can arise where the Five of Blades is concerned.

There’s a certain smugness or an air of superiority seen in the figures on this card. Neither of them are about to hear what the other has to say, nor are they going to admit defeat.

Both are so convinced that they’re right that they see no reason to hear the other person out. Compromise is out of the question. Agreeing to disagree is about as close as they’re going to get and as you can see from the figures in this card, that’s not getting them anywhere.

This is the problem with the Five of Blades. You may be so invested in being right — and being in the know — that you’re unable to see what those investments are costing you. You may be at odds with someone who has different values, or you may feel the need to show them the flaws in their reasoning. But neither of these are going to win you any friends or strengthen the friendships you do have.

Ask yourself whether being right is worth jeopardizing the important relationships in your life. You can go a long ways toward salvaging your relationships — or at least doing some damage control — by acknowledging the value in someone else’s point of view.

Scorpio: Ace of CupsAce of Cups

With 6 planets moving through your 5th and 8th houses this month — the sectors associated with romance and intimacy — your love life should be taking center stage.
This is the Ace of Cups from the the Alchemical Tarot. It’s called the Ace of Vessels in this deck, and refers to feelings, emotions, intuition and most importantly “love” in its purest form.

This isn’t necessarily a romantic version of love; it has more to do with falling in love with oneself: an alchemical process if ever there was one. When you think about it, it’s this process that reveals to you, at least momentarily, all that you’re capable of giving.

Aces in general represent raw, unformed energy. The spark of intuition (wands), the seed of an enterprise (pentacles), the origin of an idea (swords). And the most powerful potion of all — love (cups).

The imagery in this version of the card is rich with esoteric symbolism. We see a fish carting a precious (and fragile) vessel across a body of water. The vessel contains a heart which is floating in a pool of red (the blood of Christ) and from which sprouts a grape vine (the fruit of life).

The fish is said to be a messenger of the unconscious, but also represents wisdom, knowledge and transformation. The vessel — a symbol of mystery, sustenance and fertility, is also an alembic, within which the alchemical process of distilling, refining and transmuting occurs.

With summer just around the corner, this is some heavy stuff! And the union of symbols for love (the heart), fertility (the grape vines), transformation (the vessel) and wisdom (the fish) makes for an impressive transformative “magic.”

But in real life it may be as simple as opening your heart and aligning yourself with the greater good. All that you send out there — like the ripples beneath the fish on this card — reverberates out into the Universe and inevitably echoes back.

Sagittarius: Four of Pentacles

This month you want to be thinking about aligning yourself with a prosperity consciousness and making your money work for you.

The Four of Pentacles (this version from the gorgeous Light Seer’s Tarot) is sometimes just the opposite — holding too tightly to what you have or being too resistant to change.

But it doesn’t have to be. It’s the difference between allowing yourself to be trapped by the reality you’ve created for yourself, and seeing it as a living, breathing and growing extension of you.

In this regard it’s also about trust — or a lack of trust more specifically. The implication is that someone could take something from you (something you’ve ascribed a false sense of value to), which prompts you to hold on even more tightly (or hide it away).

Ask yourself, what are you holding onto too tightly and what potential opportunities are you missing out on as a result? It could be money or material possessions; or it could be loved ones or ideals.

Whatever it is, remember that in protecting your own assets and keeping peril at bay, you’re also preventing new experiences from getting in. The Four of Pentacles cautions you against holding on too tight: to your money, loved ones, or your ideals. You’ll have to examine your priorities to determine what’s worth holding onto, and what needs to be given a little more room to breathe.

Remember that the Universe doesn’t appreciate a vacuum. Letting go of your fears and aligning yourself with this consciousness can let the darkness (avarice, hoarding) out and the light (enlightenment, prosperity) in. Think about sharing what you have with others this month, and giving something back.

CAPRICORN: The Hanged ManHanged Man

This month with Saturn (your ruling planet) now retrograde you may feel at times like stuck in a holding pattern or trapped in a state of limbo.

You could be frustrated over something that’s taken too long to materialize or a sense that nothing is really happening for you despite your best efforts.

The Hanged man refers to a time when the Universe puts roadblocks in your path — often for your own good. You may have been running at a breakneck pace, never stopping to look at what you’ve accomplished.

Or you may have found yourself losing steam over a project that just hasn’t panned out. Either way, it may be time to put things on hold — at least long enough to evaluate your commitment.

This is also true of relationships. Whether you’re in an established one (or exploring a new interest), it could be time to take a step back from too.

The Hanged Man card is also about surrender. Letting go and letting God. Holding back from trying to change the natural course of things because your own input could (and would) interfere with their development.

The Hanged Man appears in this card — from the Tarot of the Magical Forest — as a bat suspended between two scrawny trees, with the waxing moon looming behind him. He’s wrapped up in his own wings like a cocoon. He holds on tightly to his one possession: a tiny book. Perhaps he’s using this time to gain insight and wisdom.

He may be in limbo but he’s not sleeping. His eyes are wide open. He’s acutely aware of his surroundings, and if you look closely you’ll see that only one foot is bound. the other he stretches toward the second tree and uses it for balance. He’s not only surrendered to this process but has become an active (or inactive in this case) participant.

Think about the areas in your own life that have taken longer than expected to manifest. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation, or it may be that there’s still work to be done. Either way you can rest assured that the reasons will become clear to you in time.

Ace of PentaclesAQUARIUS: Ace of Pentacles

With Jupiter now moving into your 2nd house, it’s time to count your blessings and focus on attracting more of the same into your life.

The Ace of Pentacles — this version from the Morgan Greer Tarot — refers to new opportunities for growth, prosperity and abundance, of which material (financial) gain is only a small part of.

It refers to planting seeds which then grow and flourish, and ultimately begin to propagate and replenish themselves — much like the grape vines framing the scarab on this card.

You want to focus on what you have rather than what you lack. What you’ve invited into your life rather than what you’ve left behind. And what you’re putting out there now, as a means of attracting more of the same.

The Ace of Pentacles — like all Aces — is a card of assurance and inspiration. It’s a “Yes” card, a manifesting card, a card of limitless promise and potential. It’s an essence rather than a “thing,” which means you have a lot of say in how it plays out.

If it’s money you want (or security, stability, comfort, etc.) now is the time to work on attracting more of it into your life. You may be in line for a raise or promotion, or you could learn of job opportunity that involves a bigger salary. You could also be the benefactor of someone else’s generosity. Either way, you should have more opportunities and more financial resources at your disposal than you’ve had in recent days.

You may also feel that your luck is changing. As the Ace of Pentacles is associated with a positive change in fortune. It’s telling you to keep up the good work, to go after your dreams, and to be open to all that the Universe has to offer you.

But remember that money is called “currency” for a reason: It’s expected to flow, both to us and from us. We need to be willing to put our own resources to use if we want to attract more of the same.

Pisces: Six of Cupssix of cups

You may feel as if you are being pulled back in time this month, courtesy of Jupiter now in your sign as well as a lineup of planets moving through your 4th house.

This is the Six of Cups from the Joie de Vivre tarot. With the gorgeous underground water environment as your playground and no swimming against the tide seen you can just enjoy yourself amongst your friends and family… with family possibly meaning those of a similar nature to yourself.

The Six of Cups is also about finding pleasure in the simpler things in life. It says it’s time to kick your shoes off and have fun rather than getting bogged down with responsibilities.

All those will be exactly where you left them when you come back to them later on, so for now put them all aside and try to recapture the spirit of those carefree days gone by. Focus instead on the innocence, wonder, sentimentality and nostalgia that takes you back to those days gone by.

You may be missing someone, longing for the comforts and companionships that have gone by the wayside over time. You could hear from an old friend unexpectedly. Someone who’s been on your mind and who takes you on a trip down memory lane, reminding you of long-forgotten events that come rushing back to you in a wave of nostalgia.

Take some time to find your own sacred space; and reflect on the things that have brought you to where you are today. If you can’t get away you can still recapture some of the magic of those simpler times, and use it to restore your sense of peace.
