The Lovers

Today’s Venus / Neptune trine brings thoughts of love and romance to the forefront. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, dating, married, separated, divorced, or a combination of any of the above, this aspect says you’re going to be thinking about relationships today.

The Lover’s card is about “love.” But it’s not always an easy or definitive love. Sometimes there are feelings of ambivalence or uncertainty, and sometimes there are choices to be made that can complicate things even more.

You may be wondering where you stand in a relationship or whether someone you care about feels the same. You may be ready to fall head over heels in love again and are hoping for someone new to come along.

This doesn’t mean today will be without challenges. You’ll have to figure out ways to make your own unique relationship paradigm satisfying for you. When things are in sync in our relationships, everything else just seems to falls into place. And when they’re not, it’s hard to think about anything else.

The figures in this version of the card — Cupid and Psyche, from the gorgeous Tarot of Delphi — overcame their own set of challenges in order to be together. Theirs is a story of love, but also loss, separation, betrayal of trust, and ultimately triumph.

You may be confronted with similar issues today. You may need to ask important questions — if only of yourself. And you may most importantly need to look at your current relationship status and determine whether it’s meeting your needs.

The good news is that you too can triumph — just like Cupid and Psyche. How you handle the challenges thrown your way will determine the outcome, so be mindful of your actions as well the decisions you make today.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 15, 2015 — Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

You may feel like life is a bit of a struggle today, or that all of your efforts are being met with resistance.

As Mars opposes Saturn and Venus squares the Nodes, you may be feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work laid out before you, especially if you’re trying to accomplish more than is humanly possible (and let’s face it, you probably are).

The Mars / Saturn opposition is the classic “running into a brick wall” aspect, which can can be incredibly frustrating, as the part of you that wants to make things happen (Mars) keeps getting thwarted by external events (Saturn).

This can be a person, such as a boss, partner, or authority figure, or if can be an event, such as an impossible deadline or unexpected delay.  The Venus / Node aspect says you may feel shut out or alone, or that the support youre looking from from others just isn’t there.

This version of the Ten of Wands, from the gorgeous Gypsy Palace Tarot, takes a light-hearted look at this scenario. As the man tries to make his way up the incline before him, his efforts are undermined by a tree frog’s subversive acts.

Everything about this card says “hard work” and “frustration.” The incline is rocky and treacherous. The man’s robes are cumbersome and stiff. And his arms are held down — or at least hidden from view — so much so that he’s not even able to swat the flies away that are buzzing around his head.

You may be overwhelmed with all that’s laid out before you today. And you may be wondering whether you even have it in you to keep on plodding ahead. But as you can see from this card there’s no turning back.

This is the Ten of Wands dilemma: You can’t exactly throw in the towel and say “I’m done.” There are obligations and responsibilities to uphold as well as people who depend on you who’d likely be hurt by your neglect. The question you might want to ask yourself today is this: “Is life (or love) supposed to be this hard?” The value of whatever it is that’s taxed you to your limits probably needs to be reassessed.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 14, 2015 — Nine of Pentacles

Nine of Pentacles

This is a good day to count your blessings and to express gratitude for all of the wonderful things you’ve accomplished in your life.

The Nine of Pentacles speaks of shifting your attitude to one of gratitude. It speaks of  attracting abundance and prosperity — not just with respect to money and material possessions, but also to your own sense of self-worth.

It’s about being grateful for all you’ve acquired and recognizing that you deserve it. It’s about developing a prosperity consciousness, knowing that the Universe offers up unlimited abundance to those who do.

The Nine of Pentacles — this version from Sarah B. Seiter’s contribution to the beautiful 78 Tarot — represents that intricate and fulfilling balance between expressing gratitude and achieving prosperity.

The woman in this card looks like she may be struggling to maintain balance. She holds the strings to Nine Pentacles — five hanging from one hand and four from the other. And these are not just any old pentacles, they’re glowing disks with butterflies and pentagrams etched into them.

She may be dealing with conflicting priorities or she may have a hard time maintaining the equilibrium in her life.

This is a key feature with the Nine of Pentacles. Balancing out the give and take in your life while still maintaining your priorities. Remember that whatever you put out there — whether it’s time, energy, money or yourself — as well as whatever you’re open to receiving, will all balance out and be replenished over time.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 13, 2015 — Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

Take a moment to look around you today and see how many of your dreams and wishes have come true.

The Nine of Cups is a card of happiness and fulfillment. It speaks of being more than just satisfied with your lot in life, but also feeling truly blessed and grateful with where you are.

Look at the woman in this card — from the fabulous World Spirit Tarot. She’s dressed to the “nines” in a rainbow of vibrant colors, standing before an array of eight distinctive goblets. She raises the ninth and shares its contents with a blackbird perched on its rim.

Blackbirds as animal totems are harbingers of good fortune. They also represent mystery, magic and esoteric knowledge.

The Nine of Cups is known as the Wish card; in this sense it’s about manifesting your heart’s desires. Nothing is taken for granted and nothing is left to chance. It’s about aligning yourself with the universal laws of attraction and getting what you deserve.

Along with being the “Wish” card, it’s also a card of Miracles. As there’s so much more focus on what one has than what one lacks, it’s easier to notice small miracles and in even the smallest things.

Be careful though that you don’t become too complacent: one of the potential pitfalls with this card is getting exactly what you asked for and then discovering it wasn’t what you wanted in the first place. Because of this you want to be very mindful of what you “put out there” today.

Take some time to think about what you really want — and don’t forget to be grateful for what you already have. There’s an intricate balance between gratitude and personal fulfillment, so make sure you’re putting enough energy and effort into both.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 12, 2015 — Knight of Swords

Knight of Swords

Knight of Swords

As Mars moves into Gemini today, you may find yourself needing to think and act more quickly than usual. Gemini is the most restless of all the dual (mutable) signs and with the planet that rules action and energy (Mars) stepping in, you’ll want to be on your toes and prepared to act with lightning speed.

This version of the Knight of Swords — from the wonderful Mythic Tarot — has two Knights not one. These are Castor and Pollux (the Dioscuri) — known to us as the twin stars in the astronomical constellation Gemini.

The Dioscuri were warrior twins — one mortal and one divine. They spent their days alternating between heaven and earth after Pollux was killed and Castor was stricken with grief.

This is the volatile, unpredictable energy that Mars in Gemini is so well suited for. It requires us to be flexible and adaptable; in fact it embraces constant change.

The Knights in this card appear to be very much in sync. But you can see that there are storm clouds on the horizon. The true test of their allegiance will come when those clouds produce results and threaten to disrupt their world.

This is what you want to be thinking about today when life throws you curveballs. Are you prepared to act quickly and decisively when things don’t go as planned? Or will one minor change in your schedule upset everything and throw you off kilter?

The Knight of Swords encourages you to not only roll with the punches but be open to unanticipated disruptions in your carefully constructed life. These may not only become blessings in disguise, but can also steer you away from pitfalls you might otherwise have not foreseen.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 11, 2015 — The Hero

hero

The Hero

Today’s card — from the gorgeous Chrysalis Tarot — is this deck’s version of traditional tarot’s Fool. Here he’s portrayed as a Hero, or more specifically the legendary wizard Merlin.

As the first card in the 78-card tarot deck, this card represents the onset of the Fool’s journey. And yet this version portrays him as a wizened old man — someone whose life experiences have brought him to great pinnacles of awareness.

But this is a card of transformation and change. It’s a reminder of the importance of embracing each new chapter with the idealism and wonder of a child — no matter where you are in your own life’s journey.

Notice that Merlin’s staff is actually a snake — the archetypal symbol of transformation. And his familiar sits at his site, wide-eyed, alert, and embodying the traditional feline mysteries that have been passed down through the ages.

The light creeping over the horizon and twinkling stars above tell you that a new day is dawning. It’s an opportunity — as with every new day — to start fresh.

The Sun sextiles Chiron today, making it possible to conduct yourself with both confidence and humility. There is a gentle, compassionate energy about Chiron that makes progressing toward your goals less about ego and more about experience.

The Hero card encourages you to draw on the wisdom you’ve gained through your life experiences as you embark on each new chapter. You’re given the opportunity to embrace new experiences with the youthful spirit of a child, without losing sight of what you’ve already learned.

Free Daily Tarotscope –May 10, 2015 — Ten of Swords

Ten of Swords

Ten of Swords

Today’s card — the Ten of Swords — is traditionally associated with the concept of surrender. And with Venus inconjuncting Saturn right now, you may very well feel like throwing in the towel.

This aspect can see you feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about your own self-worth. Do you dare ask for help and risk the possibility of rejection? Do you make more work for yourself because you’re afraid to even ask? Or do you give up entirely and figure “what’s the use?”

These are questions you want to ask yourself as you can see from the image in this card — from the beautiful Pearls of Wisdom Tarot. The central figure is so beaten down and defeated — with the traditional Ten Swords all plunged into his back — that he probably doesn’t realize there’s salvation to be had.

His prone figure lies at the edge of a cliff, with his legs and feet hanging over. He could accept defeat and allow himself to fall into the abyss. Or he could rise above — where the air is cleaner and the landscape much more inviting.

Notice the spiral of energy that envelops him from above. It seems to emanate from the Moon at the top of the card, which combined with the clouds look like an angel reaching down to comfort and protect him. It encircles him and encourages him to rise up and extricate himself from his predicament.

You may have to face a painful reality today. You may have to let something go. But whatever it is, you will know that it’s no longer serving its purpose. There are indications here — just as there are in every version of this card — that the worst is over.

As hard as it is, you know what you’re up against: there’s no more fretting and worrying about the future (as that was left to the Nine of Swords). The Ten of Swords tells you that it’s time to put the past behind you, pick up the pieces and begin the process of moving on.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 9, 2015 — Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

The question you’re going to have to ask yourself today — with Mercury squaring Neptune — is how much are you willing to give up to attain what you desire?

The Seven of Swords — like all Sevens — requires you to evaluate all the different sides of a complicated situation, and arrive at a solution that causes the least amount of distress.

It can refer to a moral dilemma or one with no easy answer, such as a decision that favors head over heart.

This is a tricky card that relates to an equally tricky dilemma. Do you risk letting go of the thing you treasure most just to save your neck? Or do you hold on for dear life, knowing that what you lose may be a far greater sacrifice in the end?

The imagery in this card — from the beautiful The Mary-el Tarot portrays this quandary perfectly. See how the Raven holds onto the jewel — risking being devour by the serpent. Does he let go of his treasure in order to save his life? or does he hold on for dear life and risk losing everything?

Traditional interpretations of this card speak of cunning, duplicity and deception. And there is some of that here. The Serpent could have easily coiled himself around the raven and tightened his grip already, but he takes his time taunting him with his hypnotic gaze.

Today’s Mercury square Neptune aspect can cloud your thoughts and cause you to be struggle with indecision. It can make harder to know what you really want, and how far you’re willing to go to hold onto to it. It can force you to have to “choose” even if that means having to choose the lesser of two evils.

Just as the snake encircles the raven and systematically tightens his grip, so must you weigh the consequences of holding too tightly to what you value, especially if it means giving up something far more precious.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 8, 2015 — Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

Things may be speeding up for you just now with many things happening all at once and you caught in the middle of it not knowing what to do first.

You may even wish there were more than one of you or an extra set of hands to get all that needs to be accomplished done.

Unexpected news is on the horizon so if you’re waiting for a phone call, email, letter, etc expect it to land in your hands soon.

You may even find there is cause for rejoicing at the news as the Eight of Wands — this version from the beautiful Golden Tarot of Klimt — also implies growth. Be prepared for a change and make sure you are ready for it when it does come.

Ask yourself what is your attitude to change? Do you embrace it or shy away from it?

Do you celebrate the changes in your life and throw yourself into them wholeheartedly or do you shrink away in fear? Do you see the Eight Wands in this card as barriers or do you see them as challenges that need to be vigorously pursued?

The Eight of Wands implies that change is upon you whether you like it or not. You may not even be given any warning it is about to come so you best be ready for anything. Remember there’s always a reason for change — even if the reason is not clear to you now!

The women in this card show the various reactions to the news and changes around them. One looks hesitant whilst two dance in celebration and ready to embrace the changes given to them.

The attitude of the two dancing in celebration is the one you want to adopt. Open your arms (and your heart) to the unknown as there are bound to be blessings awaiting you on the other side!

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 7, 2015 — Page of Cups

Page of Cups

Page of Cups

Venus enters Cancer today and brings with it an outpouring of emotion that may take you by surprise. Venus in Cancer is sensitive, loving, gentle and kind. It’s also nurturing and very compassionate — and more than willing to express its feelings of love and affection for others.

The Page of Cups refers to a sense of child-like wonder and enthusiasm that prompts you to throw caution to the wind and follow your dreams. It’s an exuberant, unrestrained and joyful energy that stems from the expectation that you’ll succeed, rather than worrying that you might fail.

In this version of the card — from Dana Driscoll’s exquisite Tarot of the Trees — a golden chalice rests at the base of a waterfall, surrounded by a verdant landscape of wildflowers and trees. The water fills up the cup and spills over, just as emotions are likely to spill over today.

The Page of Cups captures this wellspring of emotions with a childlike, youthful exuberance. There is no fear or hesitation. There’s only a willingness to feel and to share those feelings with whatever lucky recipient comes your way.

Pay attention to the messages your receive today — it could be a letter or a phone call, or it could be words of encouragement or appreciation from others. Whatever it is, know that it’s spoken from the heart with no expectations or agendas.

Don’t underestimate the power of your own words either. As the Page of Cups can be unfiltered, you want to make sure that you mean what you say today, and that you’ll mean it still tomorrow.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 6, 2015 — The Chariot

the Chariot

The Chariot

Today — with the Sun trining Pluto — you may be called upon to muster all your inner resources in order to achieve whatever it is you’re setting out to accomplish.

The Chariot card — this version from Timothy Lantz’s gorgeous Archeon Tarot — depicts a warrior goddess harnessing two vastly opposing energies.

The blue and red stallions embody hot and cold (or fire and ice) energies and are rearing up in two different directions.

You may be met with obstacles, but you’re clearly up for the challenge: there is a sense of confidence and strength seen here in the way she takes charge of the two rearing beasts. And there’s a sense of fatedness as well: as in the symbol of the goddess Maat above the moon and the overlay of constellations in the background.

Maat is an Egyptian goddess, associated with balance, truth, morality and justice. She also regulates the stars and seasons and maintains order in the Universe.

The Moon in the background glows a brilliant gold. It almost looks like a Sun: more “opposing/diverging” symbolism. And yet we see the warrior goddess standing front and dead center, as she strives to restore order to the chaos around her.

You’ll likewise be called upon to both maintain control and harness the opposing forces in your own life. Whether this is related to relationship, career, or the dual desires within your own psyche, the challenge will be to find a way to pull your energy inward and funnel it outward into one solid direction.

You can accomplish a lot today through sheer force and determination — as long as you’re aware of the need to focus your energy in one primary direction. You’ll have find a way to balance the diverging energies in your life. But if you can “pull it together” you’ll make great strides toward accomplishing your goals.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 5, 2015 — Ace of Cups

ace of cups

Ace of Cups

You may feel as though your Cup is running over today — physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The Ace of Cups is a card of promise and opportunity, a new or fresh perspective that is mirrored right back to you by the Universe.

All Aces are related to new and unformed energy. So even if it does manifest as something material for you — a new romantic interest or some form of external validation for example — the bottom line is that it creates a “feel good” energy which reverberates throughout your very being.

As this is the Ace of Cups, and Cups refer to emotions, intuition and feelings, it’s likely to manifest on one of these levels. Love and romance for starters. But also affection, intimacy, sharing, closeness and the expression of feelings.

In this version of the card — from Robin Ator’s Prairie Tarot — we see three brightly-colored birds at a bird bath. One bathes in it, one perches on the side and the third one is coming in for a landing.

Think of how many opportunities you have — some you may not have yet considered (hence the bird on its way in). This card represents opportunities for happiness and fulfillment. It speaks of fertility, birth, newness and promise.

Like the three birds depicted on this card, there’s a sense of joy and appreciation for all that has been provided for you. Today is ripe with potential and opportunity. What you make of it — and how open you are to the possibilities before you — is entirely up to you!
