Aries: Four of Cups

This month, with your ruler (Mars) opposing Neptune, you may be dealing with feelings of apathy, uncertainty, disillusionment or discontent — especially regarding your personal relationships.

The Mars / Neptune opposition can see you focusing on what’s missing in your life, rather than what’s right there before you. It can see you wondering whether there’s something (or someone) else out there that would excite or inspire you.

This is the Four of Cups from Mary Griffin’s beautiful (and sadly, out-of-print) Hezicos Tarot. The figure in the card looks absolutely bored to tears, oblivious to the beauty surrounding her, and the mischief taking place beneath her feet.

The is the essence of the Four of Cups. There’s also generally a lack of energy, which may mean that for the first couple weeks of September, you won’t feel like doing much of anything.

One of the positive aspects of this card though is that it reveals to you exactly what’s “wrong with this picture” and allows you the opportunity to make it right.

It can get you thinking about how things could be — in an ideal world or at least with respect to following your dreams — and then what you can do to make those dreams a reality. While you may start out thinking “what’s the point?” you’ll have a clearer idea of what’s worth salvaging and what could use a little more work in the end. .

Aries: Three of Cups

This month, with the Sun, Mercury and New Moon all coming together in your 5th (romance, love affairs and creative self-expression) house, it’s going to be a good time for you to let your hair down, kick your heels up and have some fun!

This is the Three of Cups from the Deviant Moon Tarot. This card is all about people gathering together to connect, interact and celebrate. It’s a happy, joyful energy that can manifest as a party or celebration, or it could be as simple as a girls night out.

Look at the figures in this card. They’re all so different, yet they’ve found a common ground and embrace one another with a the kind of joyful camaraderie that says they know how to have fun.

They rise up from the belly of a monster fish. Are they celebrating their impending release? Or are they resigned to a more sinister fate and engaging in one last last hurrah?

Either way this card is all about socializing and participating in group activities. Hanging out with like-minded people and expressing feelings of affection and good-will.

This month you want to leave your troubles at the door and go out and have yourself some fun, There’s no room for fretting about work or other mundane concerns.

It serves as a reminder that there’s always something to be grateful for, and always someone to share your gratitude with.

The World

Aries: The World

You should be feeling like you’re on top of the world this month, with five planets — including the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Chiron and the New Moon — in your sign. This is going to be a great time to prepare for the next chapter in your life, which may also require you to tie up some loose ends.

If you took stock of what’s changed for you in the last year (from one birthday to the next), you might be surprised at how has happened. And the World card tells you you’re right on the verge of checking those things off your bucket list and preparing to tackle more.

This is the World card from the Jaen Tarot. It’s the last card in the deck, completing the Fool’s journey. As such, this card speaks of achievement, fulfillment, integration and completion.

And just like the Fool, you’re now coming full-circle, from instinct to essence to progress to development, as you come to the end one cycle and prepare to embark on a new one.

You could be finishing a course or internship, tying up lose ends on a project that you’re ready to launch, putting a failed relationship behind you and getting back into the dating scene, finishing (and feeling good about) a self-improvement regimen. The possibilities are endless.

The World card is a card of both fulfillment and completion. With that in mind, it’s time to put the finishing touches on projects that are almost finished, and also time to rest anything that just didn’t pan out for you. You’re preparing to start a whole new journey, and in doing so will want to with as clean a slate as possible.

Aries: Judgment

This month — with your ruler (Mars) finally crossing its shadow point, it’s going to be time to think about reinventing yourself.

The Judgment card — this version from the beautiful Guardian of the Night Tarot — represents a day of reckoning.  It calls for self-evaluation and awareness, a need to develop enough spiritual altitude to look objectively at your mistakes and shortcomings as well as your triumphs and victories.

It serves as a powerful reminder that in order to put the past behind us we must let go of prior judgments and heal the wounds that have been holding us back.

It’s a card of eternity, infinity and timelessness. Of atonement and forgiveness. Of unconditional love, understanding and acceptance, for both ourselves and for those who’ve hurt us or let us down.

This card represents a summation of all that has come before, and an awareness that each step taken — from here on out — leaves an indelible imprint on our future. On a personal level, this card speaks of compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and acceptance.

Take this time to tie up loose ends. This can be a literal letting go of the past, but it will more likely relate to putting yourself in other people’s shoes and seeing how the mistakes they’ve made or the grief they’ve caused have been just as much a part of being human and flawed as any direct attempt to cause you pain.

Aries: The Hanged Man

This month, with your ruling planet (Mars) turning retrograde, you may feel like the Universe is forcing you to put certain aspects of your life on hold. Plans you’ve made may he held up or delayed, or you may feel the need to take a step back and regroup.

This card — the Hanged Man from the Feng Shui Tarot — refers to things slowing down or even coming to a dead halt. It could be due to circumstances beyond your control, or it could be a decision you make when you realize the path you’re on is leading you in a direction you don’t want to go.

You could be frustrated over something that’s taken too long to manifest, or have the sense that nothing is happening despite your best efforts. You may also feel like it’s one step forward and two steps back, courtesy of Mars retrograde.

Roadblocks are put in your path — often for your own good. You may have been running at a break-neck pace, never stopping to look at what you’ve accomplished. Or you may have found yourself losing steam over a project that just hasn’t panned out.

Either way, it may be time to step back, take some time to get perspective and put things on hold — at least long enough to evaluate your commitment.

The Hanged Man can refer to delays and sacrifices and when it does, you can bet they’re necessary. You’ll have to trust that there’s a reason, even if it’s not readily apparent, and that it will reveal itself to you in time. It indicates a need to back down, even if what you really really want to do is push forward. Your best bet under these circumstances will be to surrender to a higher power, or at least give up the resistance, for now.

Ace of Wands

Aries: Ace of Wands

Things are likely to start looking up for you this month as your ruling planet (Mars) moves back into its home sign. You may have been feeling a bit out of sorts in recent weeks — while Mars was in Pisces — but now with it coming back into Aries it should be full speed ahead.

This is a good time to visualize and then work on manifesting your goals. It’s a great time to start a new project or to start thinking about where you want to go from here.

The image on this Ace of Wands — from the Shadowscapes Tarot — suggests there is a correlation between what you are thinking of doing on a higher level and bringing it into your life. If this is the case it will not be difficult.

Things will fall into place for you almost seamlessly as your thoughts and actions correlate to what is around you and help comes from unexpected sources.

The Ace of Wands invites you to ask yourself what you really want to do that you can put your whole heart and soul into. It invites you to offer your intentions up to the Universe with every reason to believe you will be rewarded for doing so.

Aries: Black Tortoise Six

Opportunities abound for you this month with your ruler (Mars) joining Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in your public sector. This is a powerhouse conjunction that’s likely to get you noticed. It can herald a period of increased public scrutiny, and can bring you more recognition on the job.

You may have been putting a lot of effort into your work and not even realizing that others have taken notice. Or you could be unexpectedly pulled aside by a loved one, just to tell you how much you’re valued.

This is the Feng Shui Tarot’s version of the Six of Wands. It’s a card of appreciation and admiration. You “win” something and have earned the right to be satisfied with the spoils of your victory.

This isn’t about ego or conceit and it’s never at someone else’s expense. There’s a strong sense of being supported and lifted up by others who rejoice right along with you.

You could be in line for a promotion or an award at work. You could be given the okay to go ahead with a project you’ve been excited about. Or it may be as simple as pat on the back and some words of encouragement from those who look up to you.

Whatever form this takes for you this month, know that you’ve earned it and that you deserve it. It may just give you the incentive to keep shooting for the stars and manifesting your highest goals. Don’t shy away from celebrating your achievements with others.

Even if it feels premature at this stage know that you’re well on your way and that the fun doesn’t have to stop once you reach your goals. Embrace the accolades that are coming toward you and don’t forget to thank those who’ve helped you along the way.

King of Wands

Aries: King of Wands

How comfortable are you feeling with your own power? This month you might need to find out; as you’re probably going to need to step forward and take charge of a situation that needs a strong, confident and authoritative hand.

The King of Wands — this version from the Crystal Tarot —  is often a force to be reckoned with. He’s strong, confident, powerful and imposing; in other words, not someone anyone is going to want to trifle with.

He is dynamic and expansive. He embodies Fire sign qualities: warmth, charisma, passion, ardor. And Leo qualities in particular, according to this card. He does everything — and experiences everything — in a big way.

As with all of the court cards, this King can represent a person in your life, in this case someone who possesses strong leadership qualities and who has a larger-than-life presence that’s impossible to ignore. He can also represent a state of mind — as in displaying an infectious confidence and enthusiasm that draws people to you and elevates you in their eyes. And he can represent an event — such as a promotion or recognition from your peers.

If this is someone in your life, know that he’s here to pull you out of your shell. He’s here to teach — and to show you through example — how to live life to the fullest and to embrace it with a passion.

He may be a friend, a lover, or an authority figure, or he may be someone entering for just a brief period of time. Whatever role he plays in your life, the message for you is the same: It’s time to stand up and take charge and show the rest of the world what you’re capable of.

Seven of Pentacles

Aries: Seven of Pentacles

Now would be a good time to re-evaluate a recent decision and decide your next move. Do you proceed as planned? Change directions? Or throw in the towel and start all over again?

The Seven of Pentacles — this version from the Shadowscapes Tarot — indicates a need for patience to see something through. But it can also trigger feelings of disappointment or frustration over that something taking too long to produce results.

That also brings in the potential that as those results develop they turn out to be not what you thought you wanted in the first place. You could be involved in a relationship that’s just not working out the way you hoped or a career-path that turns out to be unrewarding.

You may be mid-way through a college degree and find yourself wondering if you should change majors, or moving halfway around the world and realizing you’re homesick.

The Seven of Pentacles — like all Sevens — refers to delays, dilemmas and decisions that are not easy to resolve. This card can refer to a pause or a setback, a choice between disparate paths, or even a change in direction late in the game.

This card represents finding yourself a pivotal juncture that there’s no easy answer for. If you find yourself at a crossroads — wondering whether it’s best to hang in there or to hang it up and start all over again, your best move may just be to step back and give it some time.

Eight of Coins

Aries: Eight of Coins

This month, you’ll be thinking about doing business and being more productive. You’ll be focusing on honing your craft and turning your skills into something you can be proud of.

The Eight of Coins is a card of craftsmanship. It can be as simple as being 100 % focused on your work and demonstrating your level of dedication and service. And it can be as innovative as taking something you’re uniquely capable of and turning it into a career.

In this version of the card — from the Joie de Vivre Tarot — a Fox in wizard’s attire conjures up a magic potion. He stands over the bubbling concoction as the cauldron sizzles and boils.

Five disks hang from the limbs of the trees behind him and three are pinned to his pointy hat. He’s so good, he can afford to take his eyes off the mixture.  But he doesn’t dare step away: the completion of this project depends on his being right there to make it happen.

The Eight of Coins is also known as the apprentice card. It refers to taking on an interest — a new one or a lifelong dream — and devoting yourself fully to it. It doesn’t have to be career related, but since it’s a labor of love wouldn’t it be great if it were? Making a living doing what we love is something we all aspire to achieve.

Four of Cups

ARIES: Four of Cups

With your ruler (Mars) moving through Pisces and your 12th house this month you may be asking yourself: “Is that all there is?” especially if you’ve attained something you so desperately longed for in the past, only to see it differently now that you’ve attained it.

It may represent a relationship that’s lost its luster, a job that turns out to be tedious rather than rewarding, or a set of ideals that under the harsh light of day no longer seems so inspiring.

The young mermaid in this card — from the gorgeous Shadowscapes Tarot — looks bored and uninspired. She gazes down at her reflection, idly tracing ripples on the surface of a stream.

The Four of Cups can relate to a lack of motivation or a lethargy so profound that it threatens to numb you or trap you in your sense of boredom. It can have you wondering whether there might be something else out there that would excite or inspire you.

It can also relate to a lack of energy, which may mean it could turn into period of inertia where you don’t feel like doing much of anything. It speaks of wondering whether there might be something else out there that would excite or inspire you.

The Four of Cups is a card of apathy and ambivalence. The focus may be on what is lacking in your life, rather than what’s right there before you. One of the positive aspects though is that it reveals to you exactly what’s “wrong with this picture” and allows you the opportunity to make it right.

It can get you thinking about how things could be — in an ideal world or at least with respect to following your dreams — and then what you can do to make those dreams a reality. While you may start out thinking “what’s the point?” you’ll have a clearer idea of what’s worth salvaging and what could use a little more work in the end.

the Chariot

ARIES: The Chariot

This month you’ll have Venus retrograding back into your relationship sector while Uranus retrogrades back into your sign. As a result you may feel yourself being torn between the desire to merge with another (Venus) and an overwhelming desire for freedom (Uranus).

Like the Charioteer in this card —  from Timothy Lantz’s gorgeous Archeon Tarot — you may be in for a bit of a bumpy ride, at least in the relationship department.

This Charioteer is depicted as warrior goddess, harnessing two vastly opposing energies. The blue and red stallions embody hot and cold (or fire and ice) energies and are rearing up in two different directions.

You may be met with obstacles, but you’re clearly up for the challenge: there is a sense of confidence and strength seen here in the way she takes charge of the two rearing beasts. And there’s a sense of fatedness as well: as in the symbol of the goddess Maat above the moon and the overlay of constellations in the background.

The Moon in the background glows a brilliant gold. It almost looks like a Sun: more “opposing/diverging” symbolism. And yet we see the warrior goddess standing front and dead center, as she strives to restore order to the chaos around her.

You’ll likewise be called upon to both maintain control and harness the opposing forces in your own life. Your challenge will be to find a way to pull your energy inward and funnel it outward into one solid direction.

You can accomplish a lot through sheer force and determination — as long as you’re aware of the need to focus your energy in one primary direction. You’ll have find a way to balance the diverging energies in your life. But if you can “pull it together” you’ll make great strides toward accomplishing your goals.
