Five of Cups

Five of Cups

It’s not so easy to focus on what you have when you’re busy thinking about what you lack. This is especially true today as Venus and Saturn move into hard aspect, making the potential for seeing the glass as half full stronger than ever.

In this case it’s three glasses (or rather three cups) and they’re not just half-full, they’ve all been tipped over and have spilled their contents onto the ground.

But if you look at the figure in the card — the Five of Cups from the Hudes Tarot  you can see that there are two cups still upright and full, right there behind him.

He doesn’t even notice the upright cups; he’s so busy mourning the loss of the ones that have spilled. And this is the essence of the Five of Cups. Something has definitely been lost — never to be retrieved — but there’s also still something left, and he only has to broaden his perspective to see it.

The Five of Cups says that it is imperative to start focusing more on what you have than what you lack. Yes you may have been bruised and battered. And yes you have every right to feel let down. But it’s not going to do you any good to cry over spilt milk (or in this case wine).

You’ll have to dust yourself off, put a smile on your face and tend to the two cups that are still standing if you want to make sense of all that you’ve been through. You won’t be able to salvage everything. But remember that all has not been lost. The Venus / Saturn square will soon pass, and as tomorrow is a New Moon, you can start thinking again about the future.

Death

Death

The Death card is nothing to be afraid of.  Personally I love this card and this version of it is amazingly talkative and gives a fantastic illustration of what the Death card is about.

Do you feel as if you are being worn down to your bare bones today and that all that you do is all for naught and you just can’t seem to get on top of anything?  Perhaps you are trying to get something started but other things keep on popping up all around you and you are stuck at square one again.

If this is the case you need to sit down, gather your thoughts and listen within yourself as to what is really going on.  Sometimes change can hit us like a 10 ton truck, other times it can crept upon us so silently we do either not see it coming or are in the midst of it before we realise what is happening.

This is what the Death card is like…  it is like moving from one position in your life to another and sometimes those transitions can be easy and other times they can be difficult but usually they end in a positive experience and you are happier than you were before.

To add weight to today’s card I’ll clue you in on what is happening astrologically because you may just find that you are at the beginning of a cycle and you have a few weeks until the changes that are in process actually transpire around and within you.

Queen of Wands

Today’s card — the Queen of Wands — encourages you to conduct yourself with fairness, grace and integrity in all of your dealings with others.

The Queen of Wands — like all of the court cards in the tarot — can refer to a person, an event or a part of yourself. She embodies the feminine or yin aspects of Fire (wands) energy: creativity, passion, enthusiasm and drive.

She’s strong and dynamic, stands out in a crowd, possesses leadership qualities and elicits respect from others. She’s also very worldly and knowledgeable.

In this version of the card, the Queen stands tall and proud with a jewel-tipped scepter in her hands. A gold crown rests on her head and a world map stretches out behind her. Even in this simple rendition her command and authority are clear.

If this is a person in your life, know that she’s honest and impartial and will treat you with respect. She may be a supervisor, a parent, a friend or even some facet of yourself that has long been dormant.

If the card refers to you, see it as a reminder that you do possess these qualities and may need to reincorporate them into your personality. The presence of this card encourages you to recapture the essence of the Queen of Wands and put her to good use.
