Two of Cups

Venus enters Gemini today and brings with it opportunities for you to connect with your “other half.”

Whether you’re in a relationship or just looking, the Two of Cups is all about falling in love — either opening yourself up to new experiences or reigniting a connection with someone you’re already involved with.

It’s this process of falling in love that reveals to us — in perfect clarity — ourselves at our very best. It’s where we put our best version of ourselves forward and the Universe responds by opening up unanticipated doors.

The Two of Cups is known as the “Love” card as it refers to that love at first sight sense of finding your other half. It’s the mutual attraction card, the “soul mate” card, and so much more. It’s the process of falling in love or renewing a love connection that replenishes itself over time.

There’s a synergy that pulls two people together and echoes their feelings back to one another. In this respect the Two of Cups is more about falling in love with yourself, as seen through your partner’s eyes.

In this version of the card — from the beautiful Sun and Moon Tarot — a young couple sit in a giant lotus blossom and share a loving embrace under the light of the full Moon. A portion of their images are reflected below them in the surface of a tranquil pool.

The Two of Cups often refers to a brand new relationship — one that hasn’t fully gotten off the ground. It’s more about falling in love than it is being in love. It’s more that heady state of limerence than the settled state of long-term relationships. Whether it can stand the test of time is still up in the air. But established relationships can also use a reminder of what it was like to fall in love.

If you meet someone new today consider it an opportunity for growth. It could be the yin to your yang — or it could just be a friend who shows you the true meaning of the word. You may also be working on revamping your current connection or reuniting with a loved one. Whichever it is, be grateful for the opportunity to see yourself through someone else’s eyes.

The Sun conjuncts Mercury today (in Aries) — bringing with it the impetus to deliver messages swiftly and with conviction.

You have something to say? now is the time to say it! The Hawk (Knight of Arrows) — Wildwood Tarot’s version of the Knight of Swords — is a messenger bird, said to be the conduit between Sky and Land. It glides swiftly over mountaintops and swoops down deftly over land and sea to capture its prey.

As an animal totem the Hawk is known as the messenger to the Spirit World. It represents focus, vision, dexterity and acumen. It soars to great heights and dives to great depths. It hovers, watches and analyzes before going in for the kill.

You may have an important decision to make today and an equally important message to deliver. You may be preparing for a presentation of searching for just the right words.

You’re probably not going to feel too much like dilly-dallying. The Sun / Mercury in Aries is much more inclined to “spit it out” than chew it over.

But keep in mind that this conjunction is also what’s known as “combust” — referring to the phenomenon of the Sun’s bright light obscuring Mercury from view. This can manifest as increased frustration and agitation, especially where communications are concerned.

Much like the Knight of Swords, there’s a sense of impatience or urgency to make things happen and because of this you want to remember to temper your communications today with tact and diplomacy. While you will undoubtedly have much to say, you’ll much better results — and much more cooperation — if you say it with courtesy and sincerity.

Seven of Swords

You want to work on trusting your instincts today and staying tuned in to your environment. The Seven of Swords — like all sevens — speaks of difficult choices and moral dilemmas. There are temptations disguised as opportunities, which could turn out to be more than you bargained for in the end.

In this version — from Timothy Lantz’ beautiful Archeon Tarot , we see a raven perched before the light of a full moon, a glowing sun time-piece dangling from his beak. A legend is told in Native American traditions of a snow white bird who steals the sun and moon and places them in the night sky. The sun is so hot that it chars his white feathers, rendering them permanently black.

There are four swords piercing the moon and three penetrating the earth below it. As the moon represents mystery, illusion and the depths of the human psyche, we can see this as a need to penetrate the veil that obscures our motivations.

We’re reminded that all that glitters is not gold, that there are consequences for our actions. The concept of time is also relevant here, as in keeping track of time, not wasting time, and making time for things that are most important.

There are elements of mischief, trickery and even thievery in this card. You may be tempted to engage in practices that are not aligned with your principles. Or you may be the recipient of someone else’s duplicity. But these same elements can be used to your benefit.

The Seven of Swords represents skill and ingenuity as well. You must have a sharp mind and a vigilant approach if you’re to navigate through some of the obstacles before you. Opportunities come your way, but there’s always a catch. Just like the raven whose cunning and prowess has rewarded him with the fiery sun, but whose feathers have become permanently charred in the process.

Hero of Wands

Jupiter turns direct in Leo today and starts moving forward again, after four long months in retrograde motion. This change in direction should have you feeling more confident and enthusiastic about the direction your life is heading.

The Hero of Wands — this deck’s version of the King of Wands — represents the quintessential “Leo” energy. He’s bold, assertive, dynamic and confident.

He’s passionate and driven, also like the King of Wands. He’s powerful and authoritative. There’s a boldness and a bravery present in this version that lends him a “larger than life” persona and renders him unstoppable.

The Hero in this version of the card is none other than Marcus Curtius, the legendary soldier who sacrificed his life for the inhabitants of his beloved Rome.

When a giant pit developed in the Roman Forum, it was ordained that only the City’s most prized possessions could satisfy and fill it.

Marcus Curtius, knowing instinctively that the Romans prized courage and bravery above all else, mounted his stallion and leapt into the chasm, which closed immediately. The devotion and chivalry that are present in this card are qualities that we might all strive to possess.

As Jupiter continues its journey through Leo, remember that you may be called upon to act with the same nobility and honor as the Hero of Wands possesses. The challenge will be finding a way to minimize the severity of any personal sacrifices you’ have to make, while still conducting yourself with integrity and grace.

Ten of Cups

Today you may be thinking about your “happily ever after” in the form of a marriage or soul-mate type relationship.

The symbolism depicted in this card — from the Mythic Tarot’s deck — certainly depicts this type of union.

Here we see Psyche and Eros being joined in holy matrimony, ten golden goblets stacked carefully before them. Psyche has been elevated to Goddess status, her virginal white gown and wings now a shimmering gold. They’re joined together as One, equal in every way.

The Ten of Cups tells you that you’ve achieved something worth acknowledging and celebrating, as seen here in the imagery of this card. It’s about fulfillment and security; a solid foundation of abundance and prosperity, and the sense that you have built something you can take pride in.

But the Ten of Cups — as with all tens — also implies a crescendo or culmination, which forces you to look at the “now what?” aspects of your relationship.

Is it possible to be loved too much or to have so much affection for another that you feel like you’re bursting at the seams? This is the basis of the state of limerence, which is an almost obsessive sense of longing and infatuation — the kind that hurts as much when you’re together as it does when you’re apart.

Falling in love is a beautiful thing. And as long as you’ve got your feet on the ground, it can last a lifetime. But this card also speaks of the capacity to love someone so desperately that you lose track of where you end and they begin.

You want to temper your desires to merge with another with the enough independence and autonomy to sustain one another separately. This is how any of us can be elevated to our own divine statures, by making the sum of the parts greater than the whole.

The Magician

Today’s Sun / Uranus conjunction should see you tapping into your own mental resources as a means of unleashing your personal power — your own genius, brilliance and ingenuity.

The Magician card refers to the divine spark that is within all of us, and encourages us to use it to accomplish our goals.

Think about areas in your own life where you’ve felt you didn’t have what it takes to accomplish your goals. It could be a career move or a relationship decision or even a personal change such as dieting, quitting smoking, tackling self-defeating thought processes, etc.

The Magician in this deck is in the midst of creating a divine spark of his own. He’s conjured up a glowing energetic spiral: manipulating the air around him to create magic out of nothingness.

He stands before a table with a wand, pentacle, sword and goblet carefully arranged on top. These correlate archetypally to the four elements (fire/wands, earth/pentacles, air/swords and water/cups respectively).

This is a common theme among the different versions: having all of the necessary resources within reach.

Fire = action, initiative and drive. Water = emotions, feelings and intuition. Air = intellect, ideas and decisions. Earth = Structure, boundaries and material concerns. Together these assets make for some powerful “magic” that you can tap into and harness at will.

Ask yourself: “What is it I need to learn today?” or “What is it I have to teach?” The Magician encourages you to tap into your highest personal reservoirs and to access skills you may not even realize you have. Whether you are the teacher today or the student, tap into that Sun / Uranus energy as well: it may just be the spark that’s needed to get you moving in the right direction.

Six of Tulips

Today you may find yourself surrounded by friends and loved ones and reminiscing about the past.

Whether you’re physically with those who are near and dear or just revisiting them in your memories, you’re likely to taking a trip down memory lane.

The Six of Cups — Tulips in this version, from the charming Rabbit Tarot by Nakisha VanderHoeven — speaks of innocence, sentimentality and memories from days gone by. You may be missing someone, longing for the comforts and companions that have gone by the wayside over time.

You could also hear from an old friend unexpectedly today. Someone who’s been on your mind and who reaches out across the miles, reminding you of long-forgotten events that come rushing back in a wave of nostalgia.

You may also feel the urge to reach out to those who remind you of life’s simpler pleasures, such as a family member or a childhood friend. And if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by loved ones today, you should have no problem recapturing those memories.

This is not the time to bring old grievances back to the forefront. And there is some danger of that — courtesy of today’s Sun square Pluto transit. It’s time to focus on pleasure, playfulness and joyb, and working on creating new memories with those you love.

You may have been taking life too seriously and find yourself needing to get in touch with your inner child. Illusion

Today’s Full Moon lunar eclipse first hides and then exposes the deepest, darkest regions of the unconscious via the shadow of the Sun crossing over the Moon.

The Moon card speaks of the need to get in touch with our emotions. it refers to mystery and the unknown, all that is hidden and that lies beneath the surface. This is the realm of the unconscious: that which is churning beneath your awareness and which often translates externally as anxieties, insecurities and fears.

It can manifest as confusion, uncertainty or paranoia — especially when we try to analyze it logically, which is foreign to the realm of the Moon. Just as we can’t fully appreciate the beauty of the Moon in the light of day (consciousness), we struggle to grasp its archetypal meaning through the lens of logic or reason.

In this version of the card — called “Illusion” in the Tarot of the Old Path deck — we see the pale figures of a man and a woman knee-deep in a pool of turbulent waters. The Egyptian-Sky Goddess Nuit stares out blankly at them from a distant horizon, a blanket of stars draped across her kneeling form. The Goddess isn’t happy, you can see a single tear sliding from her eye in the reflection of the pool.

The figures in the card appear to be experiencing a completely different set of emotional reactions under the influence of the darkening Moon. The man buries his face in his hands while the woman raises her arms up in celebration — or is she pleading to the Goddess?

The Moon card can refer to anxiety and confusion, based on an instinct that you can’t make rational sense of. You feel that something is “off” but can’t articulate your reasons because it’s not based on evidence, only intuition. It refers to mysteries and perplexities that are hard to unravel. You may working with insufficient information or you may be making assumptions based on feelings rather than facts. Either way you could run into opposition from others who challenge you to justify your instincts.

You can quiet your fears by reminding yourself that the future has not yet been written and that there’s still time to achieve the outcome you desire. You can work on curtailing some of the Moon’s more harrowing elements (doubt, fear, suspicion and paranoia) and tap into its more uplifting aspects (intuition, perception, sensitivity and discernment) instead.

Two of Pentacles

Today you may find yourself juggling all of the different areas in your life and trying to find ways to maintain some sort of equilibrium in the process.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable, as well as being able to shift from one task to another without losing focus.

The “Pentacles” the figure juggles in this version of the card are not Pentacles at all — although in her world they may very well serve as currency. She’s juggling buttons, balls and clothes pins. She stares off into space — never losing focus (although the same can’t be said for her head).

Maybe she feels confident because she’s off in her “zone.” Or maybe she’s so invested in trying to balance out her priorities that she doesn’t even notice it. One thing’s for sure: if she loses her concentration and ends up dropping one of those balls, everything she’s striving for will fall out of balance.

In the context of this card Pentacles refers to more than just money. While it can mean juggling funds — robbing Peter to pay Paul and seeing money go out as soon as if comes in. And these are certainly possibilities you want to be aware of. But it can also refer to tasks, commitments and external obligations.

It could be work and responsibilities vs. pleasure and play. It could be relationships vs. autonomy. Or it could even be up time (productivity) vs. down time (rest). Whatever it is, you don’t want to be so focused on weighing your options that you lose sight of what’s going on around you.

Think about what you need to balance in your own life today as opposed to what deserves your undivided attention. It may require levels of skill and dexterity that you didn’t even know you had. If you can pull it off though and find ways to satisfy one area without neglecting the other, it should be tremendously rewarding for you in the end.

Today with the Sun trining Jupiter and Mercury trining Saturn, it’s a good day to be thinking about doing business. And what better card to represent this energy than the King of Pentacles — especially this robust and colorful King from the stunning Pearls of Wisdom Tarot?

The King of Pentacles is all about abundance, affluence, benevolence and an appreciation for the finer things in life. He (or she) is an enterprising, success-oriented individual, with a bit of the Midas touch, and an ability to attract wealth without either squandering it or spending it frivolously.

The King in this deck is clothed in the finest royal attire. He’s vibrant, spirited and energetic: you can see that he’s got places to go. Yet he’s also very open and generous.There’s not an ounce of stinginess or pettiness about this King.

If this is someone in your life, know that he’s here to teach you those qualities. Qualities like shrewdness, discipline and business acumen. If it represents you in your current capacity, don’t forget the little people: those who’ve helped you get to where you are today and have celebrated in your success.

Today you want to be looking at opportunities that are presenting themselves for you to expand your horizons.

The Three of Wands says you’ve already made strides toward accomplishing important goals. And you’re probably also already starting to see the fruits of your labors.

Whether this is related to a projects in the workplace or momentum you’ve gained in your personal relationships, you can take a moment to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

But it’s also time to look toward the future. The Three of Wands — like all Threes — acts as a bridge between the tension and uncertainty of the Twos and the structure and stability of the Fours.

With that in mind you want to think about how far you’ve come as you plan your next move.

The bobcat in this card is perched on a ledge looking out over the vast horizons before him. The Sun rises in the distance. He may have taken a moment to pause and reflect — over how far he’s come — but a new day is dawning and with it the energy and enthusiasm to keep moving forward.
