Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

What would you be doing today if you knew that all of your efforts were going to pay off in the end? Would you keep on going despite what may feel like insurmountable obstacles, or would you throw your hands in the air and admit defeat?

This is the question you want to be asking yourself when you find yourself nearing the end of your rope and wondering if you have the strength to go on.

The Nine of Wands can have you asking yourself “what else could go wrong?” and “how much more of this can I take?” when life seems to throw you one curveball after another. It calls for perseverance and determination, especially if you find yourself starting to wonder whether the Universe is conspiring against you.

You may be recalling past disappointments, expecting the worst, or adopting a “what’s the use?” attitude. Like the tree in this card — from Dana Driscoll’s Tarot of Trees — you may not think you have the strength to go on. But this is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing right now, as you’re closer to the finish line than you think.

The Nine of Wands asserts that while things may not be easy — and while there are bound to be more challenges ahead — it’s hardly the time to throw in the towel. You need only think about how far you’ve come (and how much you’ve already accomplished) to find the motivation to push ahead.

Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

You may find yourself having to rise up and meet a challenge today that uses every last ounce of strength and fortitude you have at your disposal.

The Nine of Wands can represent a “test” from the Universe that comes when you least expect it. It can manifest as a challenge that arises after you’ve given what feels like your ALL and are looking forward to a period of smooth sailing.

This version of the card — from the original Mythic Tarot — shows the last hurdle of Jason’s journey to the Island of Iolkos, where he still has to make passage through the Clashing Rocks.

His destination is visible in the distance, illuminated by Nine flaming Wands and surrounded by perfectly calm waters. But getting there seems next to impossible.

The waves crashing into his ship and storm clouds brewing in his distance make this last leg of his journey all the more perilous. But he has to keep going; it’s too late to turn back.

This is the essence of the Nine of Wands: you may have been frustrated with the lack of progress or worse, come “this close” to completing your journey only to find another roadblock ahead of you.

This is very similar to the frustrations and impediments that abound when you perhaps haven’t made clear plans for what you wish to do. You may need to take a breather, but you’re almost at the finish line and are closer to your goals than you realize. So dust yourself off, get back to work, and push yourself past this final test.

Ten of Cups

ARIES: Ten of Cups

This month you want to remember to count your blessings, knowing that you’ve come to a place in your life where you’re aware of what (and whom) truly matters most.

The Ten of Cups tells you that you’ve achieved something worth acknowledging and celebrating, as seen in the imagery of this card. It represents fulfillment and security; a solid foundation of abundance and prosperity, and the sense that you have built something you can take pride in.

This extends well beyond financial or material security. It’s more about family, lasting friendships and a sense of comfort — in your home and your community — surrounded by people you love.

In this version of the card, from the Morgan Greer Tarot, we see two strong arms — a man’s and a woman’s — lifting a golden chalice up in a show of harmony and unity.

A colorful rainbow pours into the chalice, while nine more cups are lined up like a staircase behind them, reminding us of the steps that have been taken to lead us to where we are today. The landscape behind them is serene and peaceful, with lush verdant hillsides and trees. Even the surface of the water is calm.

The Ten of Cups is all about embracing all you’ve established through your connections and interactions with others. It’s about happiness and security in the areas that matter most — with family, friends and loved ones.

This is not the time to think about what is lacking in your life but rather what makes it complete. And while you don’t want to be resting on your laurels, it’s important to acknowledge those who are most important to you and who keep your cup continuously full.

Nine of Wands

If you’ve been thinking about where you’re heading — in your relationships, with your career, or in your life in general — now is the time to reflect on how far you’ve come and to make preparations for whatever obstacles may still lie ahead.

You may be hesitant about what the future holds, especially if things aren’t laid out before you in ways that are crystal clear. Like the figures in this card — from Elizabeth Hazel’s gorgeous Whispering Tarot — you may need to exercise caution when scoping out your horizons.

The Nine Wands in this card are actually trees that offer refuge and protection for these weary travelers. They offer a safe haven — a place to rest — for them to get their bearings and gather their strength.

Mercury and Neptune are in hard (sesquisquare) aspect today. This is a tricky configuration because it creates tension between the planet related to thoughts and ideas (Mercury) and the planet related to dreams and aspirations (Neptune). It can manifest as illogical doubts and fears, which you don’t want to let hold you back.

The Nine of Wands asserts that while things may not be easy — and while there are bound to be more challenges ahead — it’s hardly the time to throw in the towel. You need only think about how far you’ve come (and how much you’ve already accomplished) to find the motivation to push ahead.

Nine of Wands

ARIES: Nine of Wands

This is the month you may feel like you’re starting to get your mojo back, after a period of frustration, boredom, dormancy or inertia.

The Nine of Wands refers to a period of uncertainty and hesitation that comes after you’ve given what feels like your ALL and still haven’t seen the results for your efforts.

You may have been frustrated with the lack of progress or worse, come “this close” to completing your journey only to find another roadblock ahead of you. This is very similar to the frustrations and impediments that abound when you perhaps haven’t made clear plans for what you wish to do. You’re saying “go go go” while the Universe is saying “no no no.”

The reds, oranges and golds in this version of the card — from the Mary-el Tarot — combined with the ferocious tiger and the flame in the woman’s hand, speak of the need for fearless restraint. The woman takes the tiger by the tail and raises the flame high in the air in a symbol of victory.

If you look at it from an evolutionary perspective, you may be better able to understand why you’ve been forced to step back and re-evaluate your needs.

Perhaps the setbacks you’ve encountered along the way have been more than just setbacks. Perhaps they’ve been lessons in disguise. With Mercury turning retrograde in your area of communication this month what better time do you have than to “plan, plan, plan.”

Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

Today you may be feeling like you’re at the end of your rope, with so many concerns looming overhead and so little gumption left with which to tackle them.

The Nine of Wands refers to feeling beaten down by anxieties that have taken on a life of their own. You may have run into a detour just at the end of a goal, and have let it turn into an insurmountable roadblock.

The figure in this card — from the gorgeous Dreaming Way Tarot — is seated on a stump, surrounded by eight wands. The ninth wand is her walking stick that she uses to lean against. It’s almost as if it’s propping her up — so little energy does she have left to stand.

She looks tired and dejected, but if you look at the wands around her, you can see that they’re not big enough to really hold her back.

This is the message with the Nine of Wands. Your fears and your worries aren’t nearly as big as they seem. You may need that final push you get you over the hump, but there’s a clear path on the other side.

You may be working too hard, demanding too much of yourself and taking on responsibilities that others could easily assist you with.

You may see some sort of resolution in sight, but it’s still a ways off which means even more obstacles and more work than you’re sure you want to trouble with.

You may need to take a breather, like the figure in this card. But you’re almost at the finish line and are closer to your goals than you realize, so dust yourself off, get back to work, and push yourself past this final test.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Nov 19, 2014 — Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

Today you may be feeling like you’ve given something (or someone) your all and are now *this close* to throwing in the towel.

The Nine of Wands speaks of being on the verge of exhaustion over something you’ve put so much effort into and still haven’t seen the results you’d hoped for.

You may see some sort of resolution in sight, but it’s still a ways off which means even more obstacles and more work than you’re sure you want to trouble with.

So the question becomes what do you do? Do you throw your arms in the air and say I don’t think I can take it anymore? If so you give up all the work you’ve already done and all the momentum you’ve gained.

But if not it means you’re going to have to reach in, dig deep and find the strength, tenacity and fortitude to tackle those final hurdles and keep on going.

The masked figure in this version of the card looks like he’s all but given up. He sits pouting on a ledge in what appears to be a 3-dimensional maze. The staircase beside him threatens to block his every step. But look: there’s another set of stairs and a light glowing in the distance: could it be he’s found the escape route?

The eight wands leading up the first staircase may not be obstacles after all. They may be armholds. And the Ninth wand serves as a torch to both light his path and ignite his resolve.

This is the challenge you’re faced with today. You may be seeing that something you set off to accomplish is not only taken longer than you expected but has also turned into a bigger headache.

But you’re closer to the finish line than you know, and if you just keep going you’ll be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment in the end.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Sept 9, 2014 — Nine of Wands

9 of Wands

Nine of Wands

You may have to dig deep to push past some of the obstacles and frustrations you’re dealing with in your life right now.

And with a stressful aspect between Mercury and Pluto today, you might have to step back, take a breath and remind yourself that it’s not as bad as it seems. You may not be where you expected to be at this point, but you’ve still got a lot of fight left in you and you’re closer to the finish line than you know.

The Nine of Wands can refer to a moment of uncertainty or hesitation that comes after you’ve given what feels like your ALL and still haven’t seen the results for your efforts.

You may have been frustrated with the lack of progress — or worse — come *this close* to completing your journey, only to find another road-block directly ahead of you.

But if you look at it from an evolutionary perspective, you may be better able to understand why you’ve been forced to step back and to re-evaluate your needs. Perhaps the setbacks you’ve encountered haven’t been setbacks at all. Perhaps they’ve been lessons in disguise.

The figure in this card is surrounded by minor obstacles. A half formed “wall” encircles her with 8 flimsy rods stuck into the ground around it. The rods all have smiling cartoonish faces on them — including the one she’s retrieved and holds in her hand.

Nine of Wands

Today you may feel like you’re starting to get your mojo back, after a period of frustration, boredom, dormancy or inertia.

For the last 6 weeks or so Mars has been retrograde, which may have coincided for you with taking a step back to reassess your goals. You may have even experienced them being thwarted by external circumstances — scheduling conflicts or resistance from others, for example.

The Nine of Wands refers to that period of uncertainty and hesitation that comes after you’ve given what feels like your ALL and still haven’t seen the results for your efforts.

You may have been frustrated with the lack of progress — or worse — come *this close* to completing your journey, only to find another road-block ahead of you.

This is very similar to the frustrations and impediments that abound when Mars is in retrograde. You’re saying “go go go” while the Universe is saying “no no no.”

But if you look at it from an evolutionary perspective, you may be better able to understand why you’ve been forced to step back and to re-evaluate your needs. Perhaps the setbacks you’ve encountered along the way have been more than just setbacks. Perhaps they’ve been lessons in disguise.

March 2014 Tarot Scopes featuring the Dreaming Way Tarot

march tarotscopes -- judgment

ARIES: Judgment

This month you’ll be thinking about how the actions and decisions you’ve made have led you to where you are today.

The Judgment card can refer to a moment of “reckoning” where all the pieces of the puzzle start to come together and you see how you’ve participated — for better or worse — in the story of your life.

With this comes two very important considerations: one — that you can take charge and make changes in your life (as in rewriting your own script) and two — that you can view other people’s choices (which have led them to their own life circumstances) with a little less judgment and a lot more compassion and understanding.

The Judgment card refers to an epiphany or awakening, during which time you realize the consequences of your actions and are thus more inclined to proceed conscientiously.

As such it gives you a chance to start anew, to be “reborn” and make changes that are in line with your understanding of karmic rewards and repercussions. It gives you a chance to redeem and unburden yourself, as you prepare to let go of the past and move toward your true life’s purpose.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Feb 20, 2014 — Nine of Staffs

Nine of Staffs

Nine of Staffs

If you want to get anything accomplished today, you may just need to get out of your own way. The Nine of Wands (called “Staffs in this Deck”) can indicate a sense of weariness or trepidation over circumstances that are completely outside of your control.

You may have cause to be worried and you may just be imaging the worst. Your fears can get blown out of proportion and cause you to expect things to fall apart, even when there’s no reasonable cause for alarm.

In this deck we see a woman standing in the midst of a group of trees, barely peeking out from behind one of them. Her companion animal, a Unicorn, is likewise cautiously peering out. Together they scan the horizon looking for signs of danger.

The Nine of Staffs is a card of perseverance though. It’s the “hang in there” card, reminding you that you’re almost at the finish line, with one final hurdle or battle to overcome. You could be replaying past tapes in your head — recalling the times you didn’t succeed or that you almost made it to your goal only to have the rug pulled out from you at the last minute.

The message behind this card is to remember that what seem like insurmountable odds are actually challenges set forth by the Universe. If you are to succeed, you’ll need to steer clear of temptations that are not in keeping with your principles.

January 2013 Tarot Scopes featuring the Thoth Tarot

ARIES: Art

You’ll have the opportunity to re-invent yourself this month and to achieve equilibrium in your relationships.

You can turn something negative into something positive by striving for balance, harmony and composure.

This is a powerful card. It relates to the alchemical process of turning lead into gold. You can activate this concept personally by embracing that which has been resisted or denied and working to transform it.

This card is called “Art” (Temperance, in some decks). It speaks of seeking out symmetry.

It speaks of finding a middle-ground. In what areas of your life are you too inflexible, too rigid and too unwilling to hear another’s point of view?

Your challenge will be to overcome those impediments and to integrate the opposing forces in your life.
