Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 24, 2014 — Ace of Wands

Ace of Wands

Ace of Wands

A new day is dawning today and awakening you to a world of possibilities.

The Ace of Wands represents a new beginning, courtesy of the creative spark that fuels your passions and drives. It asks you to open your heart to adventure, and to find inspiration all around you.

In this version of the card we encounter the Greek God Prometheus as he soars down from Olympus with the spark of fire he’s stolen from Zeus.

There’s no hesitation or consideration of the consequences — there’s just the passion and determination that is at the root of the Ace of Wands drive.

The Ace of Wands is creative, dynamic and courageous. And while — like Prometheus — it can also be impulsive and reckless, its primary function is motivation.

Of all the Aces, this one is the shaker and the mover: it’s the one that compels us to dream big, reach high and to let nothing stand in the way of manifesting our goals.

But Aces are also more about the spark of an idea, a plan or a decision than they are about action. As the Ace of Wands is ruled by Mars, which is a big part of the Cardinal Grand Cross that we’re all still in the throes of, it may not be the best time to take action.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 23, 2014 — Four of Swords

Four of Swords

Four of Swords

This is a good day to work on being centered and maintaining your composure in the midst of whatever life throws your way.

With an intense astrological aspect — a Cardinal Grand Cross — involving four powerful planets (Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars) becoming as exact today as it’s ever going to get, you may feel like you’re in the eye of a hurricane and when you think about it, that may be the best place to be.

A Grand Cross involves four or more planets that are all forming squares (90°) and oppositions (180°) to one another. As squares represent conflict and oppositions represent tension, these aspects can be incredibly frustrating and difficult to contain.

The Four of Swords — called “Truce” in the Thoth deck, and represents a need to bring those opposing forces into the center where they can be focused into one powerful dynamic.

While you may feel pulled in several different directions today,  you’d be best served to stay calm and carry on, rather than let yourself fall out of balance. The Four of Swords encourages you to ponder, reflect and meditate rather than “act.” It speaks of detaching from the whirlwind of activity around you and to observe rather than participate.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 22, 2014 — The Chariot

Chariot

The Chariot:

You may have more energy than you know what to do with today, and less self-discipline with which to rein it in.

With Mars squaring Jupiter today, you could be bursting at the seams and raring to go — to DO something or make something happen — even if you haven’t really thought it completely through.

This is a very high-energy transit and you can accomplish a lot, but it can also be reckless, so make sure you stop and think before you act.

The Chariot card in this rendition depicts a warrior goddess harnessing two vastly opposing energies. The white and black stallions are rearing up against a day and night backdrop — each pulling away from the other rather than working together as a team.

If you look closely you can see that they’re not really going anywhere anyway; their front hooves aren’t touching the ground and their hind-quarters are nowhere to be seen.

You’ll have to work hard if you want to rein in all of that energy — otherwise you can wind up like the Charioteer in this card: spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 21, 2014 — The Tower

the Tower

The Tower

Today you may feel like you’re standing back and watching helplessly as everything falls apart around you.

The Tower card refers to sudden changes and upheavals, as life as you know it starts changing more rapidly than you’re capable of preparing for.

It may seem like your carefully constructed world is falling apart or that all you’ve held near and dear (and previously thought was indestructible) is no longer capable of sustaining you.

In most renditions of the card — including this one — the “tower” is a literal fortress that’s been struck by lightning and is crashing to the cliffs below. People are falling out of the structure while flames and smoke shoot from the shattered windows.

Yet if you consider the source of the destruction — the one earth shattering lightning bolt — you can see how it lights the whole sky, making everything momentarily clear.

It is this flash of insight that all of us need to be paying attention to, especially as Pluto and Uranus tighten their astrological grip (and form an exact square) today.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 20, 2014 — Eight of Swords

Eight of Swords

Eight of Swords

You look as if you have gone and got yourself tied up in knots over something and don’t know what to do about it.  While you are in this state you will not be able to see clearly or navigate a path towards safety and/or peace of mind.

Swords denote mental energy and in the 8 swords this energy is directed inwards without much room for moving in any direction be it forwards or backwards. Even the swords form a line on either side of the woman in the card to block her exit from her self imposed prison. I call it self imposed because those bonds surrounding her are loosely bound, they are also red and this implies she is angry about her situation but perhaps caught up a bit too much in her anger to see her way out of it.

If she would just ease herself out of them she would then be able to take off the blindfold and see her way clear from the precarious position she holds on the tiny bit of land that is left to her. Behind her is a raging sea yet the water to either side of her feet is relatively calm… almost acting like a mirror for her to self examine her own emotions and behaviour.

The image on this card shows that you may think you are not out of a bad situation yet but you may be further out of it than you know. One last piece of strength is needed for you to take action and extricate yourself from the clutches of someone else’s power and you will be free. If you stay where you are now you will find yourself not knowing what is going on, not seeing things clearly or for what they are and generally beating yourself up for something that is more than likely not your fault.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 19, 2014 — Strength

Strength

Strength

What are you struggling with today that requires you to access your inner reserves of strength? Today’s card refers not to physical strength, but to will-power and self-control.

It may be a commitment you’ve made to yourself not to cave in or to compromise your principles. And it could be a situation in which you’re struggling to uphold your part of a bargain. Dieting for example, or giving up smoking or drinking. Refusing to react or allow your buttons to be pushed.

The strength card can also refer to finding an appropriate outlet for something that you may have responded to in a less than positive manner in the past. Whatever it is, know that this card encourages you to stay on course and not fall back into unhealthy reactions or patterns.

The woman in this version of the card sits atop what looks like a two-headed beast. There’s a fierce Lion head (and hind-quarters) and gentle Unicorn head (and front-quarters) and a lily at tip of the beast’s tail. She’s lost in thought on the his back, an infinity symbol hovering over her own head like a halo.

The imagery in this card speaks of both taming the inner beast — i.e., passions and desires — but also getting in touch with the inner “magic” — i.e., intuition, inspiration and creative self-expression, and not giving any more power to one of them over the other.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 18, 2014 — Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles

Today is a good day to join heads with like-minded people in the spirit of community and cooperation.

The Three of Pentacles is all about team-work, group efforts and collaboration. It’s a reminder that two (three, or four, etc.) heads are better than one and that none of us can achieve alone what we can achieve with others. Although many aspects of this card emphasize friendship and celebration, this one focuses more on integrating the disparate parts of self. Body, Mind and Spirit come to mind.

In this rendition the pentacles are made up of three disks. They contain a Sun Face, an Eye and a panoramic scene with yogi and horse figures. The disks are all interconnected with the Sun disk shining a little brighter over the other two. A crescent moon with another eye rests below the three disks.

In addition to teamwork and collaboration, the Three of Pentacles also speaks of hitting your stride and seeing the initial results of something you’ve been working hard on. It speaks of breathing new life into a project or finding the “key” to something that has been puzzling you and holding you back.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 17, 2014 — The Star

the Star

The Star

In the midst of so many turbulent transits there’s still always a bit of hope — and today is no exception.

As Venus and Jupiter — known astrologically as the lesser and greater benefics — come together in harmony, it’s the perfect time to be thinking about what is right in the world, rather than what is wrong.

In this version of the card we see a Mermaid transferring water from an urn back into the sea from which she came. She’s perched on the edge of the shore with only her tail and a few strands of hair still immersed.

A sky full of stars twinkle and revolve around one larger “wishing star,” while two fish swim close to the water’s edge. The Hebrew letter Ayin (insight, illumination, spiritual awareness) is imprinted on the lower left.

The Star card is associated with Aquarius as the Water Bearer archetype. Yet there is something decidedly Piscean about this version of the card (and most versions of the Star card in my opinion). It is a card of hope, compassion, inspiration, intuition and faith.

It’s the sense we have that everything will be alright — even if we have to push past our own doubts and fears. It’s also about transmuting those fears and finding a productive outlet for them. Art, music, poetry, dance, creative self-expression are all very meaningful manifestations of the Star card’s energy.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 16, 2014 — King of Cups

King of Cups

King of Cups

The King of Cups is intuitive, sensitive and wise.  And in this version, he is a she. And what, pray tell, do you think she is doing looking like a little girl in a nursery playing with her toys? If you look closely though you will see that the gown she is wearing actually mimics that of a sea.

The boat, with the young man… whose hands are held out to her, is actually sailing towards her and the sea dragons who surround him in an effort to hold him back are also creatures within the “sea” of her dress.

Today the moon is in Scorpio and it follows close on the heels of yesterday’s full moon eclipse in Libra. Whilst Libra is the sign connected to relationships… Scorpio is the sign of secrets and our unconscious desires. It is a sign of intensity and no half measures yet this image of the King of Cups says it’s ok to play around a little with what you are feeling, nothing is going to come up and grab you as long as you keep the “nightmares” away from you.

These nightmares may encompass a relationship where you are keeping the other person at arm’s length in a bid to keep yourself safe because your feelings have been hurt in the past and you are not willing to open your heart again and let them in.

If you find this is the case and the other person is willing to go through thick and thin to break down your barriers even at great risk to themselves then you may wish to cut them some slack and shake out those demons which are not only holding you back but holding the whole situation back as they stop anyone getting close to you.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 15, 2014 — High Priestess

High Priestess

High Priestess

As the cycle of the full moon is upon us today together with an eclipse it is time to go within yourself and call upon your intuitive gifts to assist you in getting what you want.

You don’t need to force anything as the card of the High Priestess is not about force, rather, it is about delving deep within yourself and aligning your own higher power to use in manifesting the life you desire.

Notice how the woman sits on the earth for grounding, leaning against the tree for nourishment while she turns her head towards the sky, although not quite high enough to see the moon as it reaches its state of fullness.

She holds within her hand the moon depicted at the beginning of its cycle which occurred about 2 weeks ago in the sign of Gemini… a sign known for its quick thinking and mental agility.

Today’s full moon eclipse occurs in the sign of Libra, another air sign possessing the qualities of balance and fairness and it is within these qualities that you can turn in order to draw on your strength to accomplish that which you desire.

The High Priestess is a card of knowledge specifically drawn upon from esoteric teachings.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 14, 2014 — Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

Today you might need to act swiftly and decisively, especially if you’re wanting to strike while the iron is hot or jump on an opportunity before it’s too late.

The Seven of Swords is all about guile and mental acuity. It speaks of stealth, cunning and ingenuity, which may require you to keep your plans under wraps or to act entirely on your own.

In some versions of this card, the emphasis is on treachery and evasion. And you do want to be on your guard against suspicious actions and behaviors.

Feeling like you’re being spied on, cheated, stolen from, or lied too are all common aspects of this card.

But this rendition emphasizes planning, cunning, ingenuity and problem-solving. Notice the protagonist deftly slipping away from the sleeping Dragon as he makes his escape.

He’s crept into the Dragon’s lair and has stolen 5 of the 7 swords. Now he must carefully retrace his steps as he makes his way toward the exit.

He must maintain his composure and not lose sight of his mission: one false move could send a river of gold spilling out from under him, which would surely wake the Dragon.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Apr 13, 2014 — Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

You may find yourself in the midst of a whirlwind of activity today courtesy of the Eight of Wands. This card is all about action, initiative and movement — getting to point B from point A without a lot of dilly-dallying along the way.

The Eight of Wands (Rods in this deck) often also brings news from afar. It could be a letter, a phone call, a friend request or an invitation. It can also refer to someone delivering news (or you delivering news to another).

This version of the card is full of action. As usual with the Eight of Wands there’s a lot going on. We see the legendary Herla’s Hounds — phantom hounds sent to drag the souls of hapless mortals into the underground.

They surge across the countryside, even knocking down one of the 8 posts on their way. The huntsmen soaring above them are also a part of the legend: note the one turning to dust and dissolving into nothingness.

The Eight of Wands refers to swift movement and progress. It’s action, energy and motion. But the imagery in this card must also remind us to be careful and exercise some discipline as there are potential ramifications to pushing too hard or rushing too fast.

As Wands are tied to the Fire element, we automatically associate cards in this suit with expressive, dynamic and creative energy.
