Four of Pentacles

Four of Pentacles

This may be a day of hard work for you but does it really need to be that way? If you look at the scene bathed in sunlight through the stone slab what do you see and what does it represent for you?

The stone pillars show that there is hard work that is needed, laying the foundations down to get what you want and also perhaps putting in a little of your imagination into things to get what you want in the process.

In the pillars of stone surrounding the image you will see a crescent moon on top of the stone pillars which looks to sit on top of two stone hands clasped together.

Such is the effort you are willing to put into your current project to reach your dreams… it is as if you rule yourself with an iron fist and will not take any setbacks sitting down.

So what is it you have been forging to build and how much effort have you been putting into it possibly at the expense of other areas of your life and people being neglected?

The dream you are searching for is already in front of you and what a glorious sight it already is. A beautiful clear summer’s day, a calm sea and the sun shining without interruption.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 14, 2014 — the Phoenix

the Phoenix

The Phoenix

With Mars squaring Pluto today, you may feel like your carefully constructed world is falling apart all around you.

The Tower card refers to abrupt and unsettling changes that can take you outside of your comfort zone, through the sense that everything happening around you is completely outside of your control.

This version of the card — called the Phoenix in this deck — puts some of those challenges into perspective. The references here are less about destruction and more about transformation.

The destruction is evident — and necessary — but the focus shifts to what is accomplished and gained by letting go of all that ‘s been holding you back.

There are trial by fire connotations here, in addition to the obvious alchemical references. Notice that the Phoenix is not just rising out of the ashes, but also rising above the tumultuous waves of emotion.

It may be that your belief systems are being challenged by others. Or maybe you’re witnessing the people and things you’ve held onto so desperately are now being be ripped from your grasp. The message behind the Phoenix card is the same for both scenarios: it’s the Universe’s way of showing you what you don’t need by removing it from your life.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 13, 2014 — the Hermit

The Hermit

The Hermit

There’s a lot to be said for inner healing today as Chiron trines Saturn and sextiles Jupiter. This version of the Hermit will no doubt have you digging in deep to your emotions in an effort to bring to the surface that which is possibly hidden to you and is now on the verge of becoming illuminated.

This may not be an easy thing to do considering Venus and Saturn are also in opposition today so that which you discover may play on your mind and dance around your soul as you endeavour to draw it out and shed new light on it.

Not that I’m wanting to worry you in what you might discover. Step back and study the Hermit card. Look into the crystalline structure that is illuminated by your light and listen to what it has to say to you.

You are protected from any outside forces that try to endanger you as can be seen by the four animals on each corner of the card alongside the circular pattern that seems to immerse and enmesh you within the one way view into the deeps of your own thoughts and feelings.

This is not a day for partying or spending around a lot of people. You need the quietness of your own mind to work through what you wish to discover and make headway on.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 12, 2014 — Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

You may have so much on your plate today that it feels like “rush rush rush” for you as you scramble to get things accomplished.

The Eight of Wands is all about action, progress and momentum. It’s about getting things done and making things happen.

It may be as simple as ticking off all the little things on your to-do list, and it may be as significant as making great headway on an important project.

While it might feel to you like there just aren’t enough hours in the day, you could be surprised when the day is over to see how much you really accomplished.

The Eight of Wands is a high energy card and also sometimes refers to travel. In that respect it  relates to being literally and physically on the go. Are you planning a weekend getaway? Use this extra energy to make preparations for your trip.

Look at the Eight Unicorns galloping down the canyon on this card. They’re raring to go and although not all of them are moving in the same direction, they’ all appear to know exactly where they’re going.

The Moon is in Sagittarius today. Although it’s not quite full, it’s getting there and will be by the time the weekend rolls around.

Think about what it is you want to accomplish right now. The Eight of Wands encourages you to take the initiative and to get the ball rolling.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 11, 2014 — Six of Swords

Six of Swords

Six of Swords

You may be on the verge of making important changes in your life, and in doing so will have to think about what you’re taking with you and what you need to leave behind.

This doesn’t necessarily mean material things; in fact that’s rarely what it means. It’s more about attitudes and belief systems, as well as a life you may have built and dreams you may have dreamed that are no longer capable of sustaining you.

The Six of Swords is a card of transition and change. Moving from one “place” to another, if only in your mind. Notice how the woman in this card is huddled and shrouded from view. She’s protecting herself from more than just the elements.

She may be mourning the loss of her previous existence, or she may be reflecting on the choices she’s made to leave it all behind. Either way, she’s put her faith in the ferryman to get to her safely to her new destination.

Notice too that while the waves are choppy beneath them, they start to smooth out the closer they get to the other shore. And speaking of that other shore, the landscape’s silhouette appears to be promising. It’s lush, flourishing and full of potential.

This is the message behind the Six of Swords. You may not be where you want to be just yet, but you’re moving in the right direction.

Ask the Tarot: Second Time Around

Second Time Around

A client wants to know about a relationship that ended a few years back. It started, faltered and then fizzled out over the course of a year, without ever fully developing into the serious, committed relationship that my client was interested in.

Since January, their relationship has been “back on” again, after several different transitions (from periods of not speaking at all to attempts to maintain the connection as a friendship only, with a few ‘casual’ hookups in between).

Now though things seem to be moving forward again. And my client — Melissa — is curious about how this plays out in their cards and charts.

Free Daily Tarotscope — June 10, 2014 — King of Cups

 King of Cups

Today is all about getting in touch with your feelings and emotions. As with all of the court cards, the King of Cups may refer to an individual in your life, or it may represent an attitude of mindset that you need to adopt.

In this version of the card, we see the Greek god Orpheus, son of Apollo and Calliope, known as a passionate and loving priest. He sits on golden throne at the edge of the sea, a chalice in one hand and his lyre in the other. A pair of crabs, the symbol for the astrological sign of Cancer, are etched into the armrests, while another crab — this time a living one — emerges from the sea and scuttles onto the base of his throne.

Today’s Moon is in watery Scorpio, and for at least part of the day conjunct Saturn and in trine to both Jupiter and Chiron. The conjunction with Saturn lends an air of authority and discipline, while the trines to Jupiter and Chiron add sensitivity, vulnerability and compassion. What better representative of those energies than Orpheus himself?

Orpheus was a great minstrel whose hauntingly beautiful melodies not only lulled the sleepless dragon to sleep, but gained him entrance into the Underworld to retrieve his beloved Eurydice, after her tragic death. And retrieve her he did, almost making it back to the entrance before he defied the god Hades’ one condition: “Don’t look back.”

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 9, 2014 — The World

the World

The World

Time to turn inwards and call upon your inner resources to see you through today.

The World card refers to to the completion of a cycle. Of coming full circle — being back where you started but having grown and progressed along the way.

In each corner of the card stands the symbol for each of the four fixed zodiac signs. The Eagle for Scorpio, The Water bearer for Aquarius, Leo the Lion and Taurus the Bull.

Note that all four symbols are winged as if they are there to bring out the best in the attributes of these signs and not the negatives.

These four figures also correspond to the winged figures surrounding God’s throne in the Christina Book of Revelations. A Lion, Eagle, Man and Bull.

It’s time for change and the seeds that you plant now will come back to you in new growth further down the line.

There’s something you need to let go of to be able to take your next step in your journey. It may not be clear at present but is certainly about to become that way.

Neptune turns retrograde today and this means that your intuition is heightened. You may find yourself extra sensitive to the energies around you and also feel as if you are bringing together different aspects of yourself in an effort to build something new and that “something” could stand for a situation or it may stand for you becoming a new person.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 8, 2014 — Two of Cups

Two of Cups

Two of Cups

Today you may find yourself bonding intimately — or strengthening an existing bond — with another.

The Two of Cups speaks of falling in love, finding your other half, or connecting with another on such a powerful level that the two become one.

This isn’t necessarily a love-connection. It can refer to a sisterhood, a business partnership, a parent/child relationship or some other deep bond. It refers to the “sum of the parts being greater than the whole” axiom, which reminds us that two heads (and hearts) are better than one.

In the context of romance though, this is a very passionate depiction. The trine between Venus and Pluto today can intensify your encounters with prospective partners, as it lends a smoldering sexual undertone to those connections.

They say opposites attract and nowhere is that more evident than it is in this rendition of the card. We see a skeletal figure dressed in lavish royal garb. He commiserates seductively with an under-dressed and blackened representation of night (or “midnight” judging from the clock in the background). A crescent moon hangs low in the sky between them.

Has he impregnated her? She places a protective hand over her swollen womb. Droplets of blood collect on the floor, implying that he’s also stolen her virtue. This is not an unwelcome seduction though. They’re in this together.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 7, 2014 — Five of Swords

Five of Swords

Five of Swords

In line with Mercury turning retrograde we have the Five of Swords which is a card that usually denotes friction, sharp words with others or even legal disputes.

However, the imagery on this version looks as if the friction, negative thoughts or any disputes you are having are within your “self” and it is time to look within for the answers and seek inner clarity.

There is something very “night and day” about this card.  It is as if you can just extend your hand through an invisible shield and there you have the opposite thought, feeling or circumstance to what you are experiencing now in the present.

You are poised, you are in alignment, you are concentrating and yet what you see is a mirror image with perhaps no answers just yet in what you are trying to achieve and indeed what you may be trying to achieve is calmness and contemplation itself without the need to act or speak out.

To just let all around you take its course while you remain calm and untouched yet always with the awareness of what is going on without and within you.

This is a card you can come back to again and again over the next 5 weeks as Mercury turns retrograde, stations and then turns direct to travel through degrees in Cancer and Gemini. During this process, Mercury moves beyond the actual retrograde into what’s call its “shadow period,” which is also reflected in the imagery of this card.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 6, 2014 — King of Swords

King of Swords

King of Swords

Today you may find yourself dealing with an individual — or a situation — that has you feeling like you have no say in your current circumstances.

The King of Swords is typically very stern, abrupt and no-nonsense, with a marked “my way or the highway” attitude. He may be a parent, a supervisor, a judge or some other authority figure who appears unwilling to hear you out or to make any concessions.

He’s decisive and direct. He (or She) can also be abrupt, unyielding and intimidating, but only because you’ve given this person so much power over you that it causes you to feel inferior.

The figure in this version of the card appears as a childlike Hermes, complete with golden sandals and winged helmet. He has a small horn strapped to his tunic. And even the octopus-like contraption he’s standing on appears to have wings. In this respect he’s a messenger, so you’ll want to listen to what he has to say, even if you don’t appreciate the way he says it.

The Sun and Uranus are in sextile today. The sextile can act as a conduit for compromise by bringing ingenuity (Uranus) to the table as means of tempering Ego (the Sun).

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 5, 2014 — Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

The Nine of Cups denotes success so why are you sitting there not moving and just thinking everything through that you need to do to achieve that which you most want?

Perhaps it is because today with the Sun in Gemini (ruled by Mercury) and the moon in Virgo (also ruled by Mercury) you are well and truly stuck within Mercury’s grasp as to only be “thinking” and not “doing”.

This is not a bad thing because Mercury is just about to go retrograde in the next few days and whatever else is said about Mercury retrograde periods they are good for one thing… planning! And with the Sun and Uranus also moving toward a harmonious (sextile) aspect today, you’ can get very inventive in how you go about making those plans.

If you look at this card you will see the dualistic nature of the imagery and colours. The crescent shaped moon on one side of the chair, which incidentally shows the current stage the moon is in today, its first phase, which is just ripe for planning. The Sun on the other side of the chair which is good for actions.

A white gorilla sitting between the Sun and moon with an Ankh symbol — or the Key of Life — in its hands. Or is it Venus? A strong argument can be made for Venus given the rest of the imagery in this card. In which case you don’t want to allow your love life to encroach on your dreams.
